‘Moonlight Chaos’ is brought to you from Finland, from symphonic/death metal band, Sheltered Sun.

Released in February, ‘MC’ is very much a reflection of the marriage of light and dark on which SS is based.

Founded in 2019, SS comprises the main trio of Niclas Buss (guitar), Robin Bertlin (composer) and Eddie DeWitte (vocalist). It also features Viktorie Surmova (Surma), as session and guest vocalist, Alfred Fridhagen Den Andre (drums) and Oliver Palotai (Kamelot, Epica), extra music contributions.

Moonlight Chaos – Beautifully light choral vocals open, followed by precisely intricate riffs and extreme death vocals. Shrill, feminine vocals enter, then, adding a haunting edge to the atmosphere. The blackened vocals loosen, from that point, as the melodic vocals blend in, fluidly, whilst sustaining those heights. Gentle, acoustic chords take over, as the sung vocals become spoken word lyrics, still holding that light, ethereal atmosphere. Riffs increasingly melodic, merging with the extremes of vocal opposites, 3/4 in, gradually fading out, on softened acoustics, lightening the atmosphere, again. This is a near-perfect interplay of light and dark, showcasing shadows of both. All aspects play their parts, to perfection. Slight production glitch, 1/4 in and just before the bridge, as it suddenly stops and starts, abruptly, but the performance is top-notch, with clear cinematic drama and the bass thrumming, underneath. It’s a beautifully orchestrated storm, featuring a brief woodwind section, just before the bridge. The sounds befit the title, as do the brilliantly delivered tumbling riffs and heightened pitch, approximately 3/4 in. The gradual, gentle fade is the ideal ending for a song of this nature. Complete with matching cover art, depicting the dark stormy skies the song evokes, ‘MC’ is as visually imaginable as it is aurally. Gorgeous piece of work.

Sheltered Sun hails from Vaasa, Finland and was created to demonstrate a duality. The name was made as a personification of light and dark, comfort from the light, solace from the dark. These contrasts and abstracts define the band's nature and thematics.

Formed in 2019, it consisted of guitarist Niclas Buss, composer Robin Bertlin and singer Eddie DeWitte. Viktorie Surmøvá of SURMA joined as a session singer/guest and Alfred Fridhagen Den Andre came onboard for drums. Oliver Palotai from KAMELOT and EPICA also helped to create some music to accommodate this venture.

Bombastic, progressive and unique is how we would describe our sound with many influences of popular classical music and metal acts. We hope to make an impact with our fresh take on Symphonic Metal.

They are currently working on our debut album.
