‘Arrival’, debut track, from Dayton, Ohio’s symphonic metallers, Nomadic Narwhal is all about the pull of the ocean, the strength and mystery within it and is also a celebration of the sea.
Arrival – Sea mist rises, at the outset, as the echoes of the undersea world sing, like sirens. The sound of the narwhal makes its brief appearance … Then, the heaviest metal riffs join them, with drums beating hard. Silken riffs add another strand. It’s a very free-form styled track, with all the mesmeric mystery claimed. Fading out, with classic mysticism. The added bonus here is the whole setup of recording/producing is demonstrated by the producer, in relation to the construction of the song. A very new occurrence, showcasing the basis and development of the song’s structure. It actually strengthens the track’s atmospherics, to see and hear it all, in process. It’s also the clearest, best produced walk-through video section I’ve seen yet. The song itself is a very powerfully ambient experience, with a form and level of creativity very rarely heard/seen, lending further enigma to the sound. Refreshingly novel, recommended listen.
