Slowly it comes back, the uncomfortable, dreary season. If you want to make yourself comfortable at home in front of the fireplace with warming red wine. Then only one thing is missing; Melodic Death Doom. In addition to the well-known bands, new and promising bands have appeared again and again in recent years, which deliver exactly that: dreariness, heavy riffs, sad atmospheres and sluggish rhythms. Death Doom, or if it may be a little sadder and cumbersome, Funeral Doom. A band that should or must be on the screen from now on is the one-man project POST LUCTUM by the American Ian Goetchius.
With the new release ACCEPTANCE, the solo artist delivers his second EP after 2019, which has five beautiful compositions ready and lasts just under 40 minutes. Framed by two ten-minute series that offer atmospheric, sad Death Doom, close to Funeral Doom. But they still manage to dig out bright moments again and again and do not come across quite as bleak as you know it from so many others in this genre. Ian Goetchius skilfully plays with the melodies and conjures up many a riff, which spreads something like hope. The dark fringe is a bit faster and even more melodic than The Passing, Our Monuments or the title track at the end. Here you use more melodic death metal, look a little to Finland ('Swallow the Sun') and have created a small highlight.
The same applies to the blackened Frozen hearts. More death metal, even some black metal sounds through. But if the slow, sluggish passages predominate, making ACCEPTANCE a truly beautiful doom work that never gets boring despite the length and knows how to convince in every moment. Vocally, Ian Goetchius takes a back ride, but still convinces with deep, almost vocal singing. A work that looks as if from a single cast. So if you count (Melodic) Death Doom among your faves, you should definitely listen here. ACCEPTANCE is the perfect soundtrack for foggy, dreary autumn days and POST LUCTUM a project with plenty of potential.

Post Luctum is the moniker behind artist and songwriter Ian Goetchius, a musician with a focus on creating dark and haunting doom and melodic death metal-inspired songs.
Hailing from California, MD, Post Luctum came to life in 2019, allowing Ian to explore his creativity as a one-man project. His goal was to combine ominous atmospheric sound and dark textures with the impact of death-metal. To top it off, his songs are also an outlet for him to explore various lyrical themes, including isolation and depression, as well as the paranormal and consideration about the afterlife and the meaning of life and death.
Post Luctum’s music is a great example of his sonic vision, marking a really unique step forward for this artist, whose sound is becoming increasingly more personal and defined, one release at a time. The new EP titled "Acceptance" releases August 27th on Bandcamp, and all other major streaming platforms.
