To trace the origins of the Martyrs, you have to go back in time to almost the dawn of European heavy metal, immediately after the legendary N.W.O.B.H.M., in 1982 and you have to go and find them in the Netherlands, precisely in Utrecht in the Netherlands. As it was necessary at the time, our power metallers made the mess first by churning out a handful of demotape, "If It's Too Loud, You're Too Old" and "Metal Torture" in 1983, "For the Universe" in 1984, passing through a split record, "Dutch Steel" again in 1984, and then finally landed on the first album in 1985 ("For the Universe"). This was followed by the full-length “Darkness at Time's Edge” dated 1986, then a long pause for reflection, which lasted until 2011, when “Circle of 8” saw the light; then "You Are Next" in 2016, "Live in Japan" in 2019 and, finally, this single "Fire of Rebellions", forged in July of this year (but which reached our editorial office a short time ago).

The five Dutch martyrs are devoted to the most classic of power metal, the one, to be clear, the Judas Priest, the Iron Maiden, the Accept, in which power and melody are balanced, the one made up of simple but effective riffs, which drill your brain without many compliments. Two pieces in the name of metallic genuineness and honesty, with Rob Halford-style vocalizations on riffs woven into the iron mesh and on a rhythm section carpet crushers: exactly what every headbanger expects from a band that claims to profess the metallic creed. The first piece is a convincing and irrepressible frenzied ride, while the second is a poignant arpeggiated ballad, with a truly touching solo and well inserted in the context.

A single able to keep the dictates of our beloved musical genre evergreen, to which we will be faithful until death, especially until we can count on bands like Martyr.

Martyr is a heavy metal band from Utrecht that has existed since 1982. During its existence a set of demo cassettes were released, as well as a number of long players. The general public first became acquainted with Martyr in 1985, when the song " En Masse (Stand Or Die) " appeared on the collective album " Metal Massacre VI " of the legendary American label Metal Blade . Other greats on this record included Possessed , Hallow's Eve, Dark Angel, The Obsessed, Hirax, Hades and Nasty Savage .

The debut album " For The Universe " from the same year is still considered a classic in heavy metal circles. For example, the leading website " Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives " wrote the following about this album: "Martyr's songwriting is vastly superior to most of its competitors". In 2014, the group was honored by the " Dutch Steel (80's Metal From The Netherlands) " collector for Martyr's contribution to Dutch heavy metal history. E.e.a. the then mayor of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen , did not miss either, he sent the group a personal letter in early 2018 to thank Martyr for their ambassadorship for the city.

The group frequently performs at home and abroad, as a headliner or as a support act for a better-known act within the heavy metal spectrum (for example as support of ex- Iron Maiden singers Paul Di'Anno and Blaze Bayley, Trivium, Iced Earth, Manilla Road , Lizzy Borden, Raven and Saxon ). The absolute highlights of Martyr's career so far have been their 3 tours in Japan , which featured frenzied crowds. The feedback Martyr receives based on their performances is purely positive.

Martyr is now writing songs for the new album with already two released singles "No Time For Goodbyes" (1 June 2020) and "Fire Of Rebellions" (17 July 2020)
