Description
Following the release of their debut EP "At The Shrine Of Light” released in early 2012, Finland’s Altar of Betelgeuze now return with its first full length album entitled “Darkness Sustains The Silence”, which is set for release on January 1st 2014 via Memento Mori Records.
For their first album, the band comprised by current and former members of Decaying and Sclerosistake the blueprints they created on their debut EP and lay down another slab of bleak and heavy doom/death metal even more perfectly. Yet this time around, they also reveal an increased range of influences incorporating a lot of groovy, sludgy riffs and rhythms that hint at bands like Cathedral and Orange Goblin. Throughout eight tracks spanning nearly one hour, Altar of Betelgeuze combine the bleakest atmospheres of doom metal, with the malevolent ferocity of death metal and the gritty groove of sludge/stoner rock.
“Darkness Sustains The Silence”, is a surprisingly varied and incredible work that conjures a wide range of moods and emotions and that will surely continue to echo in the listeners' head long after they stop listening.
