ROCK AND METAL SCENE IN 2020

Last decade we saw rock, metal and all genres close to it go down in the mainstream scene, but in 2020 seems like the genre is finding it spot more clearly in a global scale. This year is filled with events, tours, and festivals that are giving this music a strong position again.

Loudwire has compiled a bunch of festivals where rock and metal will be present, either as a protagonist or with a supporting part. The compilation includes Rage Against The Machine is one of the headliners of this year’s Coachella, to Epicenter 2020 in which Metallica has a double feature and Papa Roach will be hanging around too.

Rockville has yet another double act from Metallica, Lamb Of God and many others, as I happens in Sonic Temple festival, where Metallica will be joined by Bring Me The Horizon, Slipknot, Anthrax and more. TOOL, Tenacious D and PRIMUS will be in the Bonaroo festival.

The Download Festival will also have headliners such as System Of A Down, Iron Maiden, Kiss, and Korn.

2020 is also the return of Megadeth on tour, incredible news since last year’s terrible news of Dave Mustaine’s Cancer, now the musician has said that he’s past majority of the treatment as he explained to Rolling Stone Magazine . The return of the band was made public on their social media accounts.

“I never settle for anything but complete success or, in this case, victory,” the artist says of his diagnosis and his planned return to the stage. Adding that “After the radiation, the guy said all of my test results looked amazing. ‘You look like you’re in a stage 1 and you’re supposed to be in stage 3 right now.’ And then the oncologist said the same thing: ‘You look strong.’ So we kept moving through the process.”

Kerrang! Has also noted this in a recent post about how 2020 seems to mark an important year for rock music, listing reasons as important as the reunion of many bands,  the incredible amount of festivals, as we mentioned that were listed by Loudwire , and the recognition and little nods and shout outs given by the most popular and important musicians of today to the bands that one way or another inspired them.

Although the return of Megadeth to touring is a great milestone, we have to mention a critical and acclaimed name that has made the news lately in a lot of ways. In late last year the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osborne featured in rapper Post Malone’s album, and mentioned he was recording an album.

Well, that album was confirmed to be released this year by Osborne himself through his wife Sharon, attacking those that started rumors about the former Black Sabbath lead singer being in deathbed, after his interning last year and how long his recovery has been from a fall that broke some bones of the Metal idol.

The upcoming album of the musician, called Ordinary Man , with the collaboration of legends such as Slash and Duff McKagan from Guns N’ Roses, and Red Hot Chili pepper’s Drummer Chad Smith.

In Ultimate Classic Rock , the comments that Sharon Osbourne made in her show The Talk , were noted as she reveals an unexpected but quite enjoyable collaboration and it is a song made between Ozzy and long-time friend Elton John, it has not been cleared if the song will be  in Ordinary Man , but the two of them have been friends for a long time, and Ozzy even mentioned him as one of the biggest help during the darkest time of his recent injuries.

Seems like a great year for metal and rock, two genres that are normally together, like horse racing fans and the Kentucky Derby . Let’s see how it plays out!
