Cardinal Sin is a metal band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and features Will McElwee on vocals and guitars, Jake King on bass guitar and Chase Pendleton on the drums.

Biography:

“Cardinal Sin’s just warming up, we’ve yet to kick your ass!” says singer/lead guitarist Will McElwee in the closing track, “Ragin’ 20s”, and he sure wasn’t kidding.

Cardinal Sin, the fan-favorite hard and heavy three-piece out of Philadelphia, PA, is back on January 1, 2020, with their second release, “Lucified”.  After the success of their self-titled debut, released in May of 2018, which featured the hit single “Nation Under God”, Cardinal Sin is out to prove to the world that they are no one-trick pony.

With the additions of Chase Pendleton on drums and Jake King on bass, “Lucified” displays a whole new side of the metal band from the City of Brotherly Love.  The newly united songwriting duo of McElwee and Pendleton go to great lengths to ensure that each member’s diverse influences come together to create a sound that is unique to themselves, and new to the world of rock ‘n’ roll.  McElwee’s blistering blues-influenced guitar solos are a nod to his favorite players, namely the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, and even John Mayer.  His catchy high-range vocal melodies will bring you back to the 90s. Reminiscent of singing giants such as Layne Staley and Maynard James Keenan.

Pendleton, who is personally mentored by jazz drumming phenom John Riley, lets his fusion background take control in the 4-minute progressive masterpiece, “Don’t Shut Me Out”, in which he and King lock in to create an unforgettable rhythm section to support McElwee’s riffs and melodies.  King’s fondness of 4-string slinging gods Cliff Burton and Geddy Lee shine through in his bass riffs on the powerhouse track, “Bleed”, and the 2-minute thrasher, “The Depot”.

Cardinal Sin’s love of early metal glares in the title track, “Lucified”, and its successor, “Peace Be With You”. Songs that you’ll be sure to sing along to when you see the band live.  McElwee lets his demons loose on the lead single, “Steroid”, belting loud and clear so that the world can understand every single word.

The 6-minute power ballad and sequel to the famously emotional, “Life”, from their debut, “Life II”, is a milestone in the evolution of Cardinal Sin’s signature sound. Revealing the soft side of the band and showing the world that having a string-section doesn’t make things any less heavy.

This reinvented Cardinal Sin is a force unseen thus far.  As McElwee alludes to in, “Ragin 20s”, Cardinal Sin is here to stay.
