Eddie Van Halen Has Throat Cancer

A new report by TMZ has emerged, claiming that Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen has been going back and forth between the USA and Germany in order to get treatment for throat cancer. As the source states, "we've learned he's been doing it very quietly for years." It further reads:

"As for how Eddie developed the cancer ... we're told he believes it's from a metal guitar pick he used more than 20 years ago. Seems Eddie would cradle the pick in his mouth, and he's been told that could well have been the source of the cancer, despite the fact he was a heavy smoker. Back in 2000, shortly after he was diagnosed, doctors removed around 1/3 of his tongue.

"Eddie was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago. Sources with direct knowledge tell us ... over the years there were times some of the cancer cells migrated down to his throat, and doctors would scrape them out."

According to TMZ, "Eddie has flown to Germany for 5 years to get radiation treatment" and, so far, the treatment worked and he kept it under control. We will keep you updated in case any new information on the matter comes up.

Earlier this month , Steve Lukather of Toto revealed that someoneĀ from Van Halen was dealing with health issues. Asked about the matter, he replied:

"I think they're on a hiatus, there's been some health issues that they're dealing with and stuff like that. We're older guys now, and to go on the road requires a lot of extra effort in terms of - as a human being."

The rumors have been circulating for a while and even Van Halen singer David Lee Roth has mentioned the issue in one of his recent interviews, although he wasn't ready to share all the details. You can read more about that here .
