Indianapolis, IN – Multi-instrumentalist Bram the Bard returns with the latest chapter of his visionary solo doom project Wizard Tattoo , unveiling the ambitious new album When Gods Had Hands , arriving October 3rd, 2026 through his own Garage Fire Recordings .
A sprawling progressive blackened doom concept album told across eight movements, When Gods Had Hands explores the ancient myths of forbidden knowledge and draws a haunting parallel between the fall of the Watchers in the Book of Enoch and humanity’s modern pursuit of artificial divinity.
For fans of Venom, Woe, and early Anathema , Wizard Tattoo delivers a dark and expansive journey through crushing doom passages, blackened aggression, progressive experimentation, industrial textures, and cinematic atmosphere. The album pushes the project further into uncharted territory, blending extreme metal’s most primal elements with philosophical questions about technology, religion, and the future of humanity.
The concept behind When Gods Had Hands began with vocalist and writer Fausto Aurelius , who created the album’s narrative, philosophical framework, spoken word elements, and accompanying essay. His haunting vocals move between prophet-like declarations and machine-like processing, creating a voice caught between ancient warning and futuristic uncertainty.
Bram the Bard wrote, performed, recorded, mixed, mastered, and illustrated the entire release, continuing Wizard Tattoo’s tradition of complete creative independence. The album’s sound travels through crushing doom, blackened fury, progressive exploration, vintage film samples, and unexpected textures, including Middle Eastern-inspired elements woven into the record’s atmosphere.
When Gods Had Hands examines the recurring cycle of humanity reaching beyond its limits. The Watchers gifted mankind with forbidden tools, fire, metallurgy, and the blade, forever changing the course of civilization. Thousands of years later, humanity continues the same pursuit, building new gods from silicon and light while chasing the same impossible heights.
The fall continues. Only the name of the sky changes.
Bram the Bard explains:
“After Living Just for Dying I wanted a real departure, to lean all the way into the blackened side for a whole album, the way I first did on ‘Tomorrow Never Dies.’ The influences run wide, classical, industrial, 90s alternative, and the whole thing took a year to conceptualize and come together. It's the furthest I've pushed Wizard Tattoo.”
Fausto Aurelius adds:
“This started as an attempt to make something different. Not black metal, not doom, not progressive, but something else entirely. The concept sent me back into dark industrial and black metal, and into religion and philosophy, trying to understand what's happening to the culture of humanity. I'm proud of this contribution to the myth of Wizard Tattoo.”
Since the release of the Wizard Tattoo self-titled EP in 2022, Bram the Bard has continued building a connected universe of dark, heavy, and experimental metal. Previous releases include the full-length Fables of the Damned (2023) and the EPs Living Just for Dying and One of These Knives (2024), featuring recurring vocal contributions from Fausto Aurelius and Djinnifer .
The project has earned coverage from outlets including Ghost Cult, The Obelisk, MetalBite, Doomed and Stoned, Ever Metal , and more, establishing Wizard Tattoo as one of the underground’s most unique and uncompromising solo metal projects.
When Gods Had Hands is more than an album. It is a warning, a myth, and a reflection of humanity staring into the future while carrying the weight of the past.
