TORONTO, CANADA (May 12, 2025) – Legendary hard rock and metal pioneers Alcatrazz have officially signed with BraveWords Records for the release of their seventh studio album, slated for 2026. The band, whose recent releases Born Innocent , V , and Take No Prisoners have reinvigorated their global fanbase, is also teasing a mysterious top-secret studio project in the works.

Alcatrazz, originally formed in 1983, is no stranger to reinvention, with a revolving door of high-profile talent keeping the band's sound fresh while maintaining its signature intensity. From Yngwie Malmsteen to Steve Vai, and now long-time shred master Joe Stump , the band has remained a powerhouse of technical prowess and classic heavy metal songwriting.

The Alcatraz Island Proposal

In a bizarre but fitting twist, founding member Jimmy Waldo has proposed that Alcatrazz perform at the rumored re-opening of the infamous Alcatraz Prison , recently suggested by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Regardless of anyone's thoughts on this... we really are the only logical choice,” said Waldo. “Should this re-opening actually happen, we expect the invite from the Donald! Alcatrazz would be the perfect and only band to launch the ‘New Alcatraz Prison’—we’ve spent time in the cells, climbed the towers, and shot a music video there!”

A Legacy of Shredders and Survivors

Alcatrazz is defined by its ever-evolving supergroup identity. Founded by Jimmy Waldo and Gary Shea , the original lineup also included vocalist Graham Bonnet , drummer Jan Uvena , and the then-rising star Yngwie Malmsteen . Their debut No Parole From Rock N Roll (1983) is now a cult classic. Yngwie’s departure brought in Steve Vai for 1985’s Disturbing the Peace , and the band’s history continued with a string of incredible guitarists and vocalists.

Through lineup changes, evolving styles, and the changing tides of the music industry, Waldo and Shea have remained the backbone of Alcatrazz.
