Based in Wales, UK, Death Pigeon offers the classic combination of death-ish Metal, gore, horror, and…symphony? Sure; why not? Oddly, the band doesn’t mention the orchestral elements in their music, but they absolutely play an integral part in ‘Part 2: The Rewiring of Humanity.’ I’m sure they are the product of some laptop wizardry as opposed to enlisting the London Philharmonic, but nonetheless, the symphonic interludes are quite lovely, just the same. 

On the Metal end of things, songs are relatively standard fare. Guitars that relentlessly sprag and chug, guttural vocals, rudimentary lyrics, and generally unwavering tempos. It’s not toooo bad, but it certainly doesn’t pierce the jugular like the imagery would indicate. Sandwich this with the outstanding Classical accompaniment, and it is (paraphrasing Poe) “a niche within a niche”. In other words, I don’t really know what the target audience is here. It feels like two moderately gifted artists are at a compromise.

Incidentally, there is an instrumental version of the album (Vol. 2A), which is superior if I’m being honest. Not a slight against the vocals or lyrics, but let’s just say Death Pigeon may work better as an instrumental band. That being said, give it a cursory spin. Maybe you’re in that magic circle of enlightenment.

Short Bio: Death Pigeon is an extreme metal band from Bristol, UK, they write short horror stories and add music to them.  Death Pigeon’s debut album "Vol 2: The Rewiring of Humanity” was released on February 10th 2023 and follows a character named “The Specimen” living in a steampunk Victorian-esq city filled with plague, death and mechanical augmentation, the story is taken from “The Rewiring of Humanity” written by JD.  The band consists of two members, JD and Neil.
