This has been out for a while (March 2023), but fortunately it reached our editors with some delay. Typical artwork; dark, with clear associations with stoner and doom in a kind of haze. That's also a good step in the right direction. Gritty, clumsy, but very compelling riffs, which remind me several times of good-old Black Sabbath in the groove and “Iron Man sliding back and forth chords”.
Also how a lick of single notes can be placed over a heavy riff or such a delayed, after-the-beat, restrained hook as on title track Mean Green; very nice! The guitar solos (no rocket science this time), where the power often lies in the expression and timing, are unfortunately not very well represented, but the sparing of this ingredient may have increased the hunger. In any case, it leaves you wanting more!
The vocals take some getting used to: they sound like a combination of a heavy cold rumbling, throat clearing and growling; in short, it is “creepy” and will undoubtedly represent something devilish. Now I have nothing to do with devils or demons, but after a little "switching" it does give something of a kind of extra dimension to the whole. In Grease Monkey I had a moment of doubt (or not fully paying attention) upon first listening; this was the pressed-to-the-bottom, jangling wah-wah guitar, and for once not the rumbling voice of Jake Helms. Seven songs, with dragging, leaden monster riffs in a wonderfully gritty production. This album deserves a vinyl release (and a distributor this side of the pond)! rockportaal

Mean Green’s self-titled first release is a full length album consisting of songs written in their first year of the band's forming. Mean Green wrote this album to convey a stripped down and bare bones look at sludge, stoner, and doom metal. Relying heavily on tone and a slow moving freight train like tempo for most of their songs, they bring their own twist on the genre. With crushing guitar tone, wall shaking low end, bludgeoning percussion, and growling vocals, this album is a first look into the roots and inspiration of Mean Green!
