Band name and album title: Aerik Von with Shadow Empire
Genre: Dark Synth
Release date and label: The album will probably be released independently on Halloween, October 31st, 2023.
Other releases by the band: This will be the sixth album, and he has also released 18 singles, 13 EP's and a split and a demo.
How did I get to know the band: Metal Devastation Radio sent me the album and since I was somehow hooked on Dance with the Dead and this is supposed to sound similar, I decided to give it a chance.
What do I think of the record: As expected, all the music seems like it's from a soundtrack, but that's probably how it's supposed to be. With the mix of drums (whether electronic or normal), various synth tracks and the occasional guitar and bass, it sounds like a dark sci-fi film or game with a musical background. The music alone makes me want to play a game like this, so the album will definitely be in my stash of pen-and-paper background music.
If I had to pick one track, it would be 666TH STREET SUBWAY STATION, which creates an oppressive atmosphere with a monotonous rhythm, which the synths also contribute to. The song doesn't promise anything good, as if a raid squad could show up at this subway station at any time and attack the hero.
Conclusion: If you like soundtrack music, especially if it fits cyberpunk, you will get your money's worth here. As I said, I will definitely use the album for pen and paper one or two more times. Here you can find a foretaste:
Release Date: 10/31/23
