The songs on "Designed Obsolescence" stand for quality and purposefully lead the album to the high rankings of the annual death metal polls. Whether it's "the highlight" is up to you given the powerful competition, but it doesn't matter at all for the enjoyment of SUPPRESSANT's album. The band give a pretty impressive showing of how one can be traditional, almost backwards looking, and yet still be largely original. Edgy, raw, but by no means dull, SUPPRESSANT rage in an intersection of Death Metal and Grindcore. In addition to deeply grooving, at times even really catchy numbers, the Australians can show off with small subtleties and surprises that manifest themselves in the form of inserted, almost inconspicuous melodies and give "Designed Obsolescence" an even darker aura. In addition to the raw brutality of the pieces, there are also quite gripping moments that give the album an unexpected depth. The bone-dry but very well-balanced sound gives "Designed Obsolescence" the finishing touches. So SUPPRESSANT not only has potential, but they lived it up. Suppressant is a grindcore band from Sydney, Australia formed by Matt (drums), Mishu (vocals) and Tex (guitar) in 2016. Influenced by the likes of Internal Rot, PLF, Death Toll 80K; Suppressant have self-released a string of DIY recorded cassettes, and most recently their debut 7″ Designed Obsolescence - available now through Grindhead Records (AU) and Psychocontrol Records (CZ).
