Latin America has become one of the epicentres of the modern thrash movement. From Mexico down to the southern tip of Chile thrash bands are answering the call of thrash covering all bases from classic thrash right through to the more extreme spectrums of the genre. One band who have stuck their flag firmly in the classic category are Höwler with the Costa Rican band back with their fourth studio album ‘Descendants of Evil’.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with Höwler, what the listener gets here is a band which has obviously grown up eating those classic thrash metal albums; they’ve eaten Metallica for breakfast, Slayer for lunch and Megadeth for dessert, not a bad diet in all honesty. In fact, the Metallica influence runs strong here, this is a band which have digested the first three Metallica albums with vocalist Carlos Díaz giving a bloody good impression of James Hetfield. Furthermore, guitarist David Mora and Renan Obando do a fantastic job here, they are the riff factories that keep the album chugging along whilst blistering solos just beg for a pit to open.
Yeah ok, ‘Descendants of Evil’ couldn’t be more 80’s thrash if it tried right down the Ed Repka style cover. Whilst this album is very much hero worship, there isn’t much wrong with that and therefore, if you’re a fan of 80’s thrash this is a good album to get your mitts on. Metal Digest

Costa Rica's Höwler's delivers its fourth full length album "Descendants of Evil", heavily influenced by 80's Bay Area acts, such as Megadeth, Metallica and Exodus, there's even hints of Annihilator in this mixture of speed, power and technical thrash. Thrash metal never dies!
