Plenty has been said about American metal, but north of the border, Canada pootles along delivering top quality music time and time again. Ok, Justin Beiber is unforgivable, but you know, Annihilator. But seriously, there must be something in the water in Canada, it must have trace elements of thrash because Korrosive are back with their sophomore album ‘Toxic Apokalypse’.
Korrosive released their debut album in 2021 amidst the middle of a global pandemic, but that did not deter them from going again with their second album. This is a band which have heard clarion call of thrash and they give the listener a proper lesson in violence. There is everything here that any fan of thrash metal could ever want, rapid-fire machine-gun drumming coupled with breakneck guitars thrashing away whilst the vocals of Rad Zarei bark their commands from the front and from this, you just know that this was a band raised on true thrash metal. This means that through tracks such as ‘Into Nekropolis’, ‘Libertad y muerte’ and ‘Hail the Hellfire’, Korrosive have all the hallmarks of Kreator, Destruction and Sodom, but also Slayer and Exodus as they dance the toxic waltz through the speakers. Furthermore, even the short track ‘Radioaktive Scourge’ is likely to have the listener forming a pit on their own… also, who doesn’t love an Ed Repka cover?!
‘Toxic Apokalypse’ is a top album of thrash metal, in fact, if this was released in 1989 it would be hailed as a masterpiece. Sadly, it isn’t 1989 and therefore likely to go under the radar completely unnoticed. Yet, if you love thrash metal, this is definitely an album to add to your collection. Metal Digest
