Entertaining and entertaining Heavy Metal from Tokyo.

RISINGFALL releases "Rise Or Fall" as debut album? It doesn't get much more imaginative when it comes to the band and album name combination, but the musical promise of the band from Tokyo sounds quite interesting, as they say they are inspired by the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and in particular SATAN and VICIOUS RUMOURS. The release of the first long-distance film after almost eight years of band history is overshadowed by the death of founding member Yoshiki, who died in February of this year, but encouraged his colleagues to continue with RISINGFALL and thus keep his memory alive. Yoshiki can still be heard on the eight songs of the debut, because the recordings for the record were completed in summer 2021.

And they keep the promise of the promo sheet, because with the scratchy guitars, fast drumbeats and great guitar leads "Rise Or Fall" really conjures up the spirit of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. I particularly like the fact that the guitars in particular have not been reworked or cut very much, which gives the record a liveliness that is rarely heard today. Nevertheless, the opener 'Kamikaze' also reveals some weaknesses, because above all I don't really like the very punk-like vocal interpretation and the gang shouts that are a bit too present. In addition, fronter G. Itoh has his problems especially in the higher pitches and doesn't always hit the notes. Maybe not a problem for some,

However, this small notch is promptly wiped out by the splendid guitar work, which I really like. From snappy and gripping riffs to great solos and a few neoclassical inserts, Yoshiki and Kono on the six-string have everything you would expect from a classic heavy metal disc. Fast songs like 'English Motor Biker' or 'Rock Fantasy' quickly become highlights that will surely bring a few tears to the eyes of friends of IRON MAIDEN or SATAN. And also more epic tones with an LED ZEPPELIN touch like 'Arise In The Ashes' succeed surprisingly well, whereby again the guitar solo accounts for a large part of the appeal of this number.

Sure, a few fillers like 'Never Surrender' have crept into "Rise Or Fall", but overall this is excellent and entertaining heavy metal entertainment. So if you have a soft spot for NWOBHM and particularly like them with a clear punk touch, it should definitely be worth checking out RISINGFALL. - POWERMETAL

Release Date: November 18, 2022

FFO: Riot, Savage Grace, Anthem, Satan, Vicious Rumors

Location: Tokyo, Japan

An 80's style heavy metal band formed in Tokyo in 2014. They have produced several singles and EPs and this is their first album. Recording was finished in 2021, but then one of the original guitarists, Yoshiki, passed away in February 2022. Although he passed away, the band never stopped as he himself wanted the band to  continue. The band is influenced by mid-period Satan, early Vicious Rumors, NWOBHM and hard rock.
