The Angevin band CORROZION is entering its third year of existence and has behind it the 2-track single, Come Back / Exil from 2020 as well as the 3-track, Practice Live Session from 2022. I'm going to be a little harsh but I perceive the first exercise like nice metal although a little clumsy. As for the live session, I see a very interesting first stage of complexity but unfortunately with a result that is sorely lacking in scope.

What a giant step taken with Dark Lights ! The EP contains four titles including two old compositions, Hypnotized and Sleepwalkerslightly revised but above all, offered this time with a sound worthy of the songs and it did me a world of good to hear them like this. The qualitative leap is so huge between last year's EP and this one that I feel like I'm listening to another music. Hats off to Dome Studio and David POTVIN ( LYZANXIA ) for this production which finally highlights the work of CORROZION !

Honestly, I'm bothered to put a label on the metal of this band. A dating by ear would place it in the trip of the 90s but which however passes cream in the current scene. You will find there a small dose of perceptible horror through pretty controlled dissonances as onHypnotized . Damien SAUNIER 's riffing alternates between powerful syncopated passages and fuller chords which give a good balance to the piece. The more biting second track, Out Of Time , takes up this scheme with a guitar that navigates between heady harmonics and massive interventions, which NEUROSIS had brought us for example . But the group moves away from this reference when it incorporates a very melodious chorus (without being naive). For me, the flagship of the album is When Death Decides For You. This title manages to marry a heavy and sticky rhythm with a bass as I want more and a guitar that navigates between incisive and plaintive. The vocal line is set on a very good halftone melody, an exercise much more puzzling than it seems and carried out to perfection. In this regard, I would like to underline the quality of Nicolas BOUINEAU 's singing , a clear, powerful singing, which can be surly with sometimes a HETFIELD-like flow , but remains capable of fetching very deep sounds and restoring to you true abyssal rattles. Listen to it on Sleepwalker , it makes us a festival. This last title with creeping energy is another little gem on which the rhythm section of Vincent TANGUYon bass and Bruno PAQUENTIN behind the drums sparkles. This title brings us back to sensations close to doom but in a more refined setting than the classic meaning of the genre, making me think from afar of the famous Creep from RADIOHEAD . Note here the importance of Richard DOMEAU 's keyboards to open the sound space while thickening the atmosphere.

After many listenings to Dark Lights, I identify several open paths for the future of the group. I have no claim to influence anyone but, personally, I would love for them to dig into this dark and heavy side of mid-tempos, even slow tempos, because the last two tracks really set the mood. to cut with a knife that I adore and for me it is in this genre that the quintet excels.

Are you ready for a conclusion in the form of a bullshit punchline? “When CORROZION takes on metal: from Angers! "

Location: Angers, France

After several years of existence and the release of a two-track "Come back / Exil" in 2020,CORROZION renews its line up in early 2021 with the arrival of a new drummer and a backingsinger/samples/keyboards.The year 2021 will have allowed the band to revisit the original songs and to be ready for the stage. Resolutely rock and metal, CORROZION will take you into its dark and energetic universe thanks to a powerful and melodic bass-drum combo. The saturated guitars influenced by various  metal bands (Neurosis, Entombed) bring the dark and massive side to the tracks, supported by samples and synths. The singer adds a powerful touch to the project to refine the style of CORROZION.
