Band name and album title: DarkFlow with Insane Circus

Genre: Metal Archives says Progressive Metal while Metal Devastation Radio says Shock Rock.

Release date and label: The album was self-published on May 7th, 2023ä.

Other releases by the band: Before this album and the two singles from it, they released an EP.

How did I get to know the band: Those who paid attention above know that this album came to me via Metal Devastation Radio. So let's just listen:

What do I think of the disc? A wild mix of styles awaits us here. Both Progressive Metal and Shock Rock are represented here, sometimes it also goes into the undifferentiated realm of Extreme Metal. Hard guitars, sometimes banging drums and the vocals also cover a wide spectrum. What's most important about this, at first glance, jumble, everything fits together. Instead of making it a badly done patchwork, they've created something coherent, but where the individual components are still recognizable.

So it was difficult to choose just two favourites. So my first choice fell on the opener and title track, INSANE CIRCUS. At first I feared that it would just be an overly long intro track, but after the quiet beginning, they managed to write a great track that also captures the theme of the album very well.

On the other hand, IT'S GETTING DARKER sounds really heavy, so the song would partly fit into a Melodic Death Metal band, but that alone doesn't describe it enough. Here, too, they have created something new from a wide variety of genres. A hard, heavy song, but it doesn't only indulge itself in the dark.

Conclusion: A really strong album, which can definitely be assigned to Prog Metal, but doesn't come across as overly cerebral, as other bands do too easily. Despite the sombre theme, the music also retains a certain lightness that one would not necessarily have expected. Certainly not for everyone, but some will surely have fun with it. FFO: King Diamond, Metallica, Iron Maiden

Location: Switzerland

DarkFlow is the Shock Rock act from Switzerland, mixing heavy thrash metal, classic 70's vibes, and a theatrical powerful voice. Last but not least, DarkFlow has a lot of electronical and symphonic arrangements in their songs. DarkFlow is the mixed influences between Sean Horror (Singer) and Flow (Lead Guitar), which expresses a powerful, sad and painful metal theatre. DarkFlow is a new and original Shock Rock act that comes straight from Switzerland. DarkFlow has released one album, "6", and now they're releasing on May the album, "Insane Circus", which was mixed and mastered by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) and in the album there's a solo of Andy LaRocque who's featuring in the song " Suicidal Headaches ", and the invited guest for the drums of the whole album is Snowy Shaw (Dimmu Borgir, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Therion) . DarkFlow gave their very best in this whole piece of dark and sad theatrical music.
