The Xothians (also known as Starspawn of Cthulhu) are characters created by the great HP Lovecraft as part of his Cthulhu saga; they belong to a species that bear great physical similarities to the Great Old Cthulhu, but are smaller in size. Well, the Starspawn of Cthulhu can be counted among the many fans of Lovecraft's literature, as evidenced by their own moniker. Founded in 2019, they made their debut in 2020 with the EP "Yog-Sothothery", which was followed by the single "Dunwich", a cover of the Electric Wizard song. In 2012 another EP ("Tales from the Unknown") and now this further EP - "The Cursed Vision" -, which always fits into the bed of a strongly dark Doom Metal, bordering on melancholy and depressive. The 27-odd minutes into which this EP is divided would constitute the ideal soundtrack for any funeral home and for a funeral in the middle of winter, complete with torrential rain to further cheer those present. The classical guitar arpeggios are very valuable, especially in the opening track "Iranon", which denote a not at all bad technique of our two Venetian doomsters, as well as the piano inserts, the instrument that better than the others (together with the cello ) knows how to express the most fatal and harmful human feelings. In the second piece, "The Last Raft", needless to say, the cello manages to make the already heavy atmosphere even more gloomy while in the following track ("Black Lotus", the longest with over 8 minutes) it is the piano to outline an increasingly rampant melancholy. The following "Blind God" is nothing short of suffocating, with an increasingly cavernous voice. The macabre dances closes with a final track introduced by a hyper-compressed bass which sharpens even more (if it is possible) the unspeakable suffering that accompanies listening to the entire work of this couple in black.
