Earlier this month, former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di’Anno expressed his disliking towards GHOST‘s version of MAIDEN classic song “Phantom Of The Opera.”

He vented his feelings on his Facebook profile where he wrote a reply to his fans’ question: “Everyone asking my opinion on the ghost cover of phantom well not that it matters but it fkn sucks”

“Phantom Of The Opera” originally appeared on IRON MAIDEN‘s self-titled debut album, and the rendition of the song is featured on GHOST‘s five-song covers EP entitled PHANTOMIME.

In a new interview with Loaded Radio, Di’Anno elaborated on his opinion of GHOST‘s cover of “Phantom Of The Opera”, saying: “The music’s great. I just don’t think Tobias f**king tried hard enough vocally. He sounds a bit plain… And he changed the lyrics slightly… That was a bit weird.”

He continued, referencing his now-deleted Facebook post: “When I first heard it, I was probably in a bad mood that day. I said, ‘This is f**king bulls**t.’ But I’ve listened to it about three or four times. [The music is] pretty damn good, actually, to be honest with you. But as I said, I just feel like Tobias didn’t give it some welly [using British slang for ‘energy’], as we say… Give me some f**king welly.”

He went on to say that he bears no grudge against GHOST or Tobias personally: “Regardless of what you think of GHOST, I’m very happy for them. Maybe I was just pissed off with life [that day], as usual. The older I get, the grumpier I am. F**king great. Once you get over 50, you’ve got every f**king right to say what you want.

“As I said, I just wish he’d put a bit more effort into the vocals. That’s all,” he added.
