I saw the cover and wondered what was behind it. Kind of crazy I think. Definitely not power or death metal. When I then heard the first tones of SANCTIFIED HEATHEN , I thought " Of course ". Dusty Stoner Metal with a Doom edge and Heavy Rock attitude. So that's what the trio GRAVE NEXT DOOR is all about .

A band from Grand Rapids, Michigan / USA. Two brothers on drums, guitar and vocals plus the bass player. The album represents the debut, which was released a year ago and is now gaining new honor and attention via Black Doomba Records . But honestly, I don't know what to think about it.

Basically, I don't think the album is bad at all. The songs have a groove, a nice underground charm and are sometimes very playful. Stoner, doom, blues and lots of rock. Actually the ideal soundtrack for the summer. With a cool beer and dusty festivals in the blazing midday sun.

But why was the disc given this (lousy) production? Wasn't there anymore? Should it? Does it have to sound like this? Hardly any highs, the bass is booming, the drums are rattling, the vocals are in the foreground. Was the album recorded live in the garage or in the basement room? Really. A real shame. You could have so much more fun with the record. There were two more points.

I give it 6 out of 10 Hellfire points hellfire-magazin
