The last 20 years has seen a revival in so many genres, from thrash metal to trad heavy metal, bands are picking up guitars, growing their hair long and donning and denim and leather in the way their forebears did. One band who have been fighting it out in the trenches of the underground in The Netherlands is Crimson River who have delivered their debut album ‘Here’s to the End… Again’.

Those who have been following Crimson River through the release of their singles throughout the years alongside their EP’s will know that ‘Here’s…’ consolidates everything that Crimson River have been working towards. Therefore, what the listener gets here is thrashing guitar lines tempered by a trad metal sound delivered through a raw production which gives a near perfect demonstration of what you would get with Crimson River live as tracks such as ‘Armada’, ‘We Are the Knights’ and ‘Native’ show a band with all the thrashing energy of Megadeth, Havok and Death Angel. Furthermore, those who like their guitar playing to be of virtuoso level will find that ‘Here’s…’ has some playing that would make fans of Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Yngwie Malmsteen nod with appreciation. However, the vocals are a little bit of an acquired taste and can be quite off-putting and do take some time to get used to.

There isn’t anything here that hasn’t been done before, but Crimson River have delivered an enjoyable debut with a huge 80’s feel that puts a decent foundation down for the band to grow from. Metal Digest

Crimson River is a rock / heavy metal band from Eindhoven in The Netherlands and was founded in 2011. Catchy riffs and flaming guitar solos characterize the sound. Strong influences from the New Wave of British Heavy dominate. In addition, the 10-string B.C. Rich Bich and some slide guitar can provide a 70’s classic rock vibe. Shredding leads à la Paul Gilbert and Yngwie Malmsteen complete the picture.

For a long time they were rehearsing in obscurity, finetuning their sound, doing few shows and just having fun. But in 2019, the “Crimson River EP” was released, which was well received. In December of 2022 the single “Here’s To The End… Again” came out, and on February 10th of 2023 the rest of the album will be released into the world!
