Arrived only recently, but released in early December 2022, "Netherworld" is the first EP by the English Termination Force, after a demo released a year earlier, containing two songs that are also reported in the tracklist of this EP (tracks 2 and 3 ). The disc has a decent artwork (author unknown) and consists of five songs, for a total duration of just under 19 minutes. The sound is very old style and is inspired by the Heavy/Thrash of the late 80s of groups such as Metal Church and, in general, by the American school of the time. So here we have well-sharpened guitars, sustained speeds thanks to a good rhythm imposed by the drums, with a bass that pulsates properly; unfortunately everything is ruined by a recording that defining "vintage" is paying a compliment, so much so that one wonders why in 2022 there is still someone who wants to go down certain paths, now hackneyed, too much abused and which they bring absolutely nothing positive. If we were thirty years behind in time, we could even accept such a production, but it is enormously difficult to listen to a record recorded in this way, thinking of the low-cost means and technology that exist today. I strongly doubt that the young generation of metalheads can appreciate certain sonorities, above all considering that they don't bring anything particular or innovative (terminologies I believe completely absent from the vocabulary of these Englishmen); Termination Force's music therefore winks at the more "old" metalheads but, also in this case (since yours truly belongs to this last category), I doubt that there are any particular chances of success, given that it is largely preferable go and listen to those seminal groups that have invented and played this music for over thirty years now. And while it wasn't unpleasant listening to these five songs, I don't see how Termination Force have a chance to get out of the deepest underground with this "Netherworld". Maximum respect for the evident passion of musicians towards a certain type of sound, but in 2022 (now 2023) does it really make sense to continue playing and recording in this way? allaroundmetal
