Netherworld" is the debut EP by the fairly new British band TERMINATION FORCE, featuring singer Rich Rutter, who underground fans should already be familiar with as Toledo Steel frontman. Also on board is former Toledo Steel bassist David Lowell.

Compared to Toledo Steel, TERMINATION FORCE go to work a bit faster and lyrically “futuristic” and play classic US Metal like Agent Steel, Jag Panzer and old Helstar. At times, "Netherworld" evokes good memories of numerous classics from this spectrum, but despite many good approaches, it doesn't really come close to the cult and madness of its role models.

After the solid but somewhat identityless opener 'After The Fall', the somewhat more intricate songs 'Termination Force' and 'Target Locked' are by all means small underground gems. Then comes the somewhat more melodic 'Heart Racer' and the final title song, which is a bit more catchy, almost catchy in the refrains, but imho sometimes a bit more stuffy.

Underground fans should surely enjoy "Netherworld". If the songs had been released 30 to 35 years ago, they probably would have had a certain cult status today, like e.g. B. "As Darkness Reigns" by Oracle/Prodigy. Compared to old classics, resurgent heroes like Jag Panzer and Voivod or newer bands from Sacral Rage to Vector, TERMINATION FORCE (like Toledo Steel imho) simply lacks the punch and their own identity for games in the upper leagues.

But the first great songs and promising musical systems are definitely there. I'll keep all underground sympathy fingers crossed for the future.

Formed in 2021 out of a love of under appreciated late 80's / early 90's melodic metal predominantly from the USA and Germany.
