Exactly five years have passed since we met for the first time the Polish Death/Black band Devilpriest which today has only two elements in the lineup: the singer/guitarist/bassist Tom Hermies (Deus Mortem, ex-Imperator) and the drummer Necro Docre (Damned Soul, Mord). At the time of the debut on Pagan Records "Devil Inspired Chants", we defined the work as discrete even if a bit banal; after five years and having passed under Odium Records, the Gliwice duo returns with "In Repugnant Adoration", pouring on the listener 38 minutes - divided into seven pieces - of hatred and anger in pure central-European Death / Black sauce. The stylistic coordinates of the Devilpriests have remained the same as their debut, therefore with sonorities comparable to that Death/Black of Polish origin (Azarath, Hate, Behemoth). However, compared to the work of five years ago, ours seem decidedly more 'on the ball', putting down an authoritative performance compensating for the not so much originality with a decidedly higher level of execution. Both in terms of the composition and the structure of the songs, the Devilpriest seem to have decidedly adjusted the shot, and to prove it we have broadsides such as "The Eye of Set", "Walpurgis" and "Ritual Command", the central triplet of the album definitely everything respect. Overall, however, the Polish act never drops in intensity, largely thanks to the frenetic drumming of Necro Docre which forms a perfect match, among other things, with the guitars of his comrade in arms. It will also be because five years have passed, but we find a marked improvement in the work of the Devilpriests; of course, from here to emerge completely from a rather overcrowded scene there is a lot of work and more work, but also due to the not negligible experience of the two musicians we can expect further steps forward in the future. - allaroundmetal
