What Are The Side Effects Of Consuming CBD?

Whether you're using CBD oil to treat a condition or simply experimenting with it for its benefits, you might want to know what side effects it can cause.

In addition to the positive effects of CBD oil, there are several negative side effects you might be concerned about.

CBD Side Effects

Taking CBD can produce some side effects. It is best to talk to your doctor before taking it, especially if you have any pre-existing conditions. Your doctor can recommend the right product for you and can advise on the proper dosage.

CBD has been found to be an effective treatment for many ailments, including anxiety, joint pain, nausea, and insomnia. However, there are many side effects to be aware of. The most common ones include lightheadedness, dry mouth, and diarrhea.

There is also concern about the potential of CBD to increase blood thinning . CBD is not well regulated in the United States, and the FDA does not monitor the safety of dietary supplements.

There are also concerns about the potential of CBD to interfere with other drugs. For instance, CBD can inhibit the cytochrome P-450 system, an enzyme that metabolizes drugs. This may lead to symptoms of an overdose.

In Vitro Apoptosis

Several studies have shown that a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, CBD, has effects on immune system cells and apoptosis.

Although CBD has been shown to have anti-cancer properties, it has also been reported to have negative effects on anti-tumoral treatment. Apoptosis is a type of cell death that is caused by the release of reactive oxygen species.

This reaction is a consequence of the activation of caspases, which are a key enzyme in the process of cell death. Various cancers have been shown to overexpress the enzyme AKT , which is responsible for cell resistance to apoptosis. CBD decreases Akt activity and induces apoptosis.

The effects of CBD on apoptosis were investigated in two neuroblastoma cell lines, SH SY5Y and IMR-32. Both cell lines were incubated with CBD in serum-free medium for 24 hours. CBD increased the number of apoptotic cells in the SH SY5Y cell line.

Apoptosis was also measured in IMR-32 cells, which were pre-treated with caspase inhibitors. The presence of these inhibitors decreased the number of apoptotic cells, but they had no effect on the proliferation of these cells.

The effects of CBD on apoptosis also were investigated in a leukemic B cell line , NBL. These cells were treated with CBD and DMSO. The CBD treatment reduced p-p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase and the number of reactive oxygen species. The CBD treatment also decreased cell migration.

In addition, CBD altered miRNAs, which are small protein non-coding RNAs. They play a crucial role in cell growth and differentiation. They regulate tumor suppressor genes, oncogenes, and metabolism.

In Vitro Toxicity

Phytocannabinoids , as well as other compounds derived from cannabis, have been shown to have a variety of anti-cancer properties.

However, there is little known about the in vitro toxicity of these compounds. Consequently, human clinical trials are needed to validate their effects.

The cytotoxic effects of pure CBD were increased when combined with other compounds. However, the aforementioned S4+S5 formulation exhibited the most significant cytotoxic activity in the HuT-78 cell line.

Furthermore, combinations of CBD and CBG , two of the most common compounds found in cannabis, showed similar cytotoxic activity.

The in vitro toxicity of the S4+S5 mixture was evaluated in two different assays. The first was an XTT assay, which measures cell viability as a function of live cell number. The second was an IC50 assay, which measures cell proliferation as a function of concentration.

Mislabeled Products

Among the many concerns about cannabidiol are the side effects that can occur from consuming it from products that are mislabeled.

Although it has been well known for many years that marijuana contains THC, researchers are discovering that some of the more common CBD products contain THC, despite being labeled THC-free . This may have serious implications for patients using CBD for medical reasons.

Conclusion

While there are various potential side effects of consuming CBD, they are generally mild and well-tolerated.

Most people experience no adverse reactions at all, but if you do experience any side effects from taking CBD, it is important to speak with your doctor or health care provider for further advice.
