The German label Green Bronto records is betting on bands that might not otherwise be known in Europe. They have already released the album by the Iranians Thy Dispraise and Claim HG from Cuba, and last Friday it was the turn of Metastasys DC, also a Cuban band, from one of the most distant places from any cultural center on the island and trying to be them. themselves a place where culture flourishes despite the eternal problems of underdevelopment.

Metastasys is a band with more than ten years of career and I remember that when they emerged, it was a big surprise for the metal scene on the island, due to the conditions under which they have had to deal all these years. But by now we all know that “what doesn't kill you makes you stronger” according to Confucius, while according to Brutal Truth, “Extreme Conditions Demands Extreme Responses”, and here they are, like a sharp, cutting metalcore band.

If they had told me that one day they would be in stores in Europe with a record, I would have wanted it, but without having any illusions. And any illusion has come true with "Scars". Extreme music and lyrics according to them. Verses in Spanish with Caribbean idioms, putting their finger on the sore that the "progressives" of this world do not want to see and that is bleeding the island dry.

Running for just over thirty-three minutes, the record is a barrage of powerful riffs and desperately aggressive drumming. The only respite comes with “Grito de Salvación” and a slow entrance to the guitar before the drums mark the acceleration under a continuous and catchy riff. An ecological piece, with some verses that lead you to imagine sporadic details from here and there.

But to get here, you have already passed several interesting tracks. "Chaos" is a very curious intro and, as its name indicates, chaotic, while "Nemesys" marks the main characteristic of the lyrics. They are not stories but interconnected facts, something that is repeated in "Sistema Depressive" with a slight touch of Slayer at its entrance, while "En Silencio" pulls back the veil on certain characters who in the name of "something" monitor and betray to his compatriots, exposed with extremely expressive verses.

The title song is magnificent: "Scars that remain from pain, from fear, that remain inside you." They make us think of our own scars and when it was that, as children, the first one marked us. There is not a second for relaxation and “Impotence” speaks for itself under a heavy, catchy and simple riff. “Códigos” leaves you thinking, under a guitar barrage, what your life would be like if instead of riffs there were bursts and you were in a trench.

To close, another of the pieces that the band has highlighted, “Social Metastasys”. The track shows, like some of the previous ones, Slipknot influences, especially from a song that has come to mind more than once when listening to this: “People=Shit”. Not just the music and those cuts that leave the vocalist repeating a verse, but the lyrical concept in general.

As the world is, the album may not have a massive success, but the simple success of its existence already means a lot to many people, not only in Cuba. When you live in Europe and complain about trifles, you may not understand that someone looks down on you. Metastasys DC lyrics can help you understand, if you want. - madeinmetal

Metastasys DC from Santiago de Cuba cultivate a very own crossover style since 2009. Their music is based on Hardcore, which at times flirts with other genres like Metalcore and Groove Metal. A peculiar sound that is rounded off with hard hitting Spanish lyrics.

Throughout their career they have earned highest reputation on all stages of Cuba. With more than 300 concerts, they have grown to one of the most demanded acts by the Cuban metal audience. Metastasys DC - a live band whose characteristics is to offer a show full of energy, professionalism, and great dynamics. They are now bringing their overflow of adrenaline and mastery of the stage to a debut record that will conquer new audiences worldwide.

Vocalist Robin Fajardo says: ‘Cicatrices (Scars) is a conceptual album in my opinion. A summarized conglomerate of ten years of work and a load of externalized feelings in the music. Designed so that, in its eight songs, the listeners know the band, identify with our realities, understand the feelings of our people (in Cuba), and above all find refuge in our music. There's a phrase someone said somewhere that we've always made our own way: if questioning, if unmasking what's wrong, if saying something is too dangerous, then make it music. So yes, this album is a statement because we all carry those scars.’
