These Americans bring together two different influences. Modern metal is mixed with harmony vocals that evoke memories of Alice In Chains. It creates a different dynamic than usual with one of the two influences. The tempo is higher than with AIC (exception is the ballad Frailwhich is therefore most immediately reminiscent of AIC). On the other hand, the harmony vocals provide an interesting twist compared to other modern metal bands. The five songs on this EP are all well put together. The same goes for production. The relatively young band (created in 2020) shows that the musicians themselves have been around a bit longer. Smooth guitar work with nice running runs is complemented by excellent supporting drum and bass work. On top of that that excellent (together) vocals. The fact that the band also knows how to bring harder work excellently shows the melodic Black Watersto belong. Especially after the musical break in the middle part, the band, including the almost grunting singer, goes wild for a while. Fathom is just preparing the minds for a full length album for five songs. Given the quality delivered, we hope that it will be on the market soon. - rockportaal

Release Date: September 9, 2022

FFO: Chevelle, Tool, Deftones, Sevendust

Location: Knoxville, TN

Broken Side, formed in early 2020, consists of members Jesse Thacker (Guitar/Main Vocals), Jonathan Crawford (Guitar / Backing Vocals), John Wiest (Guitar / Backing Vocals), Skylar Gratz (Bass), and Justin Myers (Drums).  An eclectic group with a mashup of rock / metal backgrounds and influences.  Broken Side is a melodic layering of heavy guitar tones, rhythmic bass lines, and hard-hitting drums which is growing organically into its own genre of ear catching rock. Their second EP release, Titled Fathom, is a very -true to form- example of the band's talent.

Broken Side is known in the East TN region for their no nonsense and mood driven stage presence, they are about the music and the audiences feel that connection.  Opening for national acts: Destrophy, Saving Able, Saliva, Puddle of Mudd, and Drowning Pool, Broken Side is setting themselves apart in the local scene as the professional "go to" for a great rock show.
