With the third album of the discography, "The Greater Good Of Man", we are delighted by SPLINTERED THRONE from Portland, Oregon. WHITE CRONE's Lisa Mann replaces founding member Brian Garrison on mic, who left the band in 2019. Anyone familiar with WHITE CRONE's "The Poisoner" knows that Lisa's precise phrasing and clear articulation are unique. Originally a blues singer and award-winning bass player, we can be grateful that she is now living her love of metal to the fullest. Furthermore, Matt Dorado reinforces SPLINTERED THRONE as second guitarist.

Already with the up-tempo hit 'The Reaper Is Calling' I fell hopelessly in love with the band. This chorus releases buckets of endorphins. If the other songs weren't equally strong, I could listen to 'The Reaper Is Calling' on repeat. The guitar duels are at their finest, but most of all the vocals are great, with a whopping scream at the end. 'The Crossing' is also fast-paced and full of energy. 'Morning Star Rising' is a kind of power ballad with a perfect arc of suspense and powerful drums, in which Lisa Mann in particular can shine again. Here the singer comes very close to her role model Ronnie James Dio in terms of emotion, expression and variability.

I can't say whether the title song 'The Greater Good Of Man' refers to 'For The Greater Good Of God' by IRON MAIDEN in any way, in any case it leans a bit towards the style of the Iron Maidens compositionally . Interestingly, the bass in the middle sounds pretty funky. The slightly progressive influences 'Let It Rain' has that certain melancholy of great US metal songs. 'Underdogs' is again a power ballad with a lot of emotion and great guitars. Unfortunately, the hinted male growls in the chorus don't quite do the song justice. 'Night Of The Heathens' picks up the pace again. 'Time Stands Still' is the least convincing as a classic heavy metal song in the context of the album, especially since the band doesn't act quite as harmoniously as in the other pieces. But that may just be a personal impression. Another highlight awaits us at the end. The 2017 re-recording of 'Immortal', dedicated to Lemmy Kilmister, tops it all off. Goosebumps appear as soon as the first notes are heard. What the instrumentalists and the singer present here is simply magical.

It is likely that this first class album will go largely unnoticed in the scene. Fans of classic Heavy Metal shouldn't be impressed by this and should definitely check out "The Greater Good Of Man". - POWERMETAL

Traditional Heavy Metal Band Splintered Throne ’s high energy performances have captivated audiences on the US West Coast for over a decade. When original vocalist Brian Garrison left in 2019, Lisa Mann ( White Crone ) stepped forward to transform the band into a female fronted juggernaut.  Bassist Brian Bailey is the longest running member of the band, followed by guitarist/songwriter Jason Moser and drummer Kris Holboke, and blistering new guitarist Matt Dorado ( Earth To Ashes ). The band has supported some of the very best including Primal Fear, Metal Church, P.O.D. Lita Ford, Armored Saint, Tony MacAlpine, Gary Hoey, Points North, Sanctuary , and many more.

Their new album, " The Greater Good of Man " (releasing Aug 19th) marks the post-pandemic return of this Pacific Northwest Metal favorite. Eight melodic and burning songs were hammered out over the course of the pandemic, as well as a re-recorded version of their Bic-flicking power ballad "Immortal," written in memory of Lemmy Kilmister . Packed with memorable melodies, heavy riffage, and high-energy performances, this album reflects myriad influences ranging from Power Metal, Melodic Hard Rock , and Bay Area Thrash . This is an album for headbangers and horn raisers!
