An anthology of the famous American band? No, these are the Italian Firehouses from Milan, an AOR band born before the American group, and which with this album presents us on a single CD both of their full lengths released at the time, which consist of the self-titled debut album from 1988, and in the second "Labyrinth" from 1994, all with a new lyric video of one of their songs, for a nice reissue that certainly makes the music of the Italian Firehouses available again, given the rarity of the original records, the first of which was never released never on cd at the time.
And as nice as the recording operation is, it's also easy to see why Firehouse didn't collect much success at the time: the first album "Firehouse" actually came out at the end of the 80s, the decade most congenial to them, but above all is a relatively immature record, where the music is certainly pleasant, but also nothing ever heard in those years, with a barely decent sound and also with a musical personality that isn't so received, which alternates more appreciable hard n heavy songs, with other more derivatives, such as "open your wall" which seems a bit like another "Jump" by Van Halen, a band whose influence can be heard here and there in the lead guitar, to others which are a bit incomplete, such as ballad "Pray", which ends a bit like this, in nowhere, all for a result a bit without infamy and without praise, where Firehouse play well, but also like many others, and where it seems that the band still didn't know how to let go and remove the inhibitory brakes.
Better the second disc, "Labyrinth", undoubtedly more mature, but especially in which the inhibitory brakes mentioned above are precisely let go, with the Firehouse who go wild giving us a proper song, even if interspersed with some avoidable instrumental interludes, including "Stonework", which frankly looks like the Firehouse version of Van Halen's "Eruption", but shorter, and if "The color of your kiss" continues to mimic the aforementioned "Jump" , at least the trend here is more typically rough and properly heavy, which takes away the embarrassment and manages to excite us more. This second "Labyrinth" is undoubtedly a more successful album, a pity that it was released in 1994, that is absolutely out of time, given that at the time the bulk of non-extreme alternative music was all for grunge,
A nice operation, therefore, the result of a seminal band but not exactly an essential classic, but which today is re-evaluated for the authenticity of the work as well as as a find of sounds that today mostly belong to the past. For lovers of underground 80s rock, more than metal, but also those who have never experienced the 80s or 90s can give it a listen, to understand how things used to be.
The final judgment does not judge the quality of the pieces, as this is only a reprint, and is limited only to evaluating the formal aspect. - metalwave

FIREHOUSE “THE STORY OF ITALIAN A.O.R. BAND 1987/1994”

DOUBLE DIGIPACK WITH THE ALBUMS FIREHOUSE (1987) AND LABYRINTH (1994)

The new release from Music for the Masses is a special one, for many reasons!

First of all, the Remastered reissue of the only two albums (the debut was never issued on CD before!) released by the Italian Firehouse, nearly impossible to find nowadays, if not at incredible prices. And then the desire to share with you two records that came out in the late 80s-early 90s, which could should have become A.O.R. masterpieces.

You have to take into consideration several factors, while approaching these albums.
The recordings are about 25 years old and the albums were released with no internet around or, at least, wasn’t used the way it is today. Technology wasn’t of course as advanced as today and it was much harder to promote a record without social networks and so on.

In spite of that, the Italian Firehouse put out two true A.O.R. gems, the first in 1987…a year in which their U.S. eponymous band weren’t even formed!

That’s the reason why we strongly desire that you will be able to discover 2 fundamental albums which show the artistry of this Italian band.

The package is a truly elegant one, a double 6-fold digipack in numbered edition, limited to 300 copies.

Make yourselves a present, make it yours!
