A good dose of hardcore, a good dash of thrash metal and a tiny pinch of death steel, that's the explosive mix of styles that the Americans CONCRETE TIES serve up on their new EP. "Unrecognizable" is the second effort by the quartet, which includes Leyla Eileen, Jeff Facci, Dan Menard and Josh Venn, and follows 2018's "Twisting The Knife" short groove, which landed the foursome a deal with Upstate Records Has.

Musically, the six new compositions tie in seamlessly with their predecessors, although frontwoman Leyla seems to have improved in direct comparison with her shouts and growls. Aside from that, the material on offer is also very decent and I especially like the opener 'Desolation' with its Thrash Metal vibe and a powerful groove. With the subtle pinch of hardcore thrown in here, the whole thing reminds me of the SEPULTURA phase shortly after Max Cavalera's exit. 'My Promise', on the other hand, has a much stronger punk attitude, but suffers a little from the somewhat monotonous shouts. The same are doing much better in the fast-paced and compact 'Annihilation',

After that it gets a bit monotonous. The musical recipe of the Americans becomes a bit too predictable with increasing playing time and even if Leyla has generally improved vocally, her voice still lacks the variability to captivate my attention over the entire EP. The sound of the record also offers room for improvement, because it sounds quite dull over long stretches and the wooden drums in particular reduce my listening pleasure noticeably.

So in the end "Unrecognizable" is just a solid appetizer of the genre, which needs to be followed up if the foursome want to make a name for themselves outside of the local underground scene. - Powermetal

Born out of Western Massachusetts, this quartet brings together members from New York City, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.  On vocals Leyla Eileen's fierce screams will inspire rage in all who dare to step foot on the floor.  Old school thrash metal riffs mixed with chunky palm mutes are sure to please any metal or hardcore fan.

Formed in 2017 by Jeff Facci (FULL BLOWN CHAOS), Dan Menard (FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE) and Josh Venn (BLOOD HAS BEEN SHED).  CONCRETE TIES released their debut E.P. “Twisting The Knife” in 2018 and released the single “Total Recall” in 2019.
