A release in the field of thrash metal is very good for me at the moment, as my interest in this style has rarely been higher. Therefore, of course, I went to "Mother Terror" by TERRORFORM with a certain joy. The EP of the Americans is the only output after the two singles from the years 2020 and 2021, which represent tracks 3 and 4 here. With four songs and about 20 minutes of playing time, the guys want to do more and that works - but not without restriction.
The publication is very clear and you get through quickly. It's funny that the track 'Intro' comes in second place and the title track comes first. But so be it.
The intro of 'Mother Terror' is very well done and creates a mysterious, ominous mood. But that is also the only thing that could be emphasized positively here. The rest is rather mediocre, because the aggressiveness is completely absent. In places it sounds like an ordinary uptempo rocker and has been unnecessarily prolonged. In contrast, with 'Intro' you get to the point faster and also offer tasteful riffs and season the whole thing with gangshouts. Definitely the highlight of the EP. Unfortunately, here and also in the rest of a song, the riffs are reused too often. 'Dark Matters' is then a lot faster and can convince with a good mix of groove and thrash passages. Unfortunately, the end of the track, which sounds a lot like black metal and does not want to fit into the composition, proves to be rather inappropriate. With 'Intruder' the brake is then tightened again and emphasis is placed on groove. Positively, the kick-out also stands out for its high melodic part, which does really well in the composition.
TERRORFORM definitely has potential, even if each track has its own weaknesses. When improvements are made in songwriting, especially in terms of a greater variety of riffs and more rousing hooks, you have what it takes to do something bigger. - POWERMETAL
