Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas and Gandalf. Who doesn't know these characters from the Lord of the Rings fantasy trilogy? What fewer people may know is that J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of this powerful story, was born in South Africa. In Bloemfontein to be precise. The latter has no added value, but it is a beautiful place name and that is also worth something. In addition, there are theories that connect the Eastern Cape town of Hogsback in South Africa with the descriptions of Middle-earth, one of the continents from Tolkien's stories. Let this Brundarkh know his birthplace in the southern African country and, among other themes, also draw inspiration from the stories of Mr. Tolkien.
Matching the themes that come from the fantasy world, this Brundarkh makes symphonic blackened death metal entirely in the style of Dimmu Borgir,Cradle of Filth and Carach Angren. The dramatic effect is therefore quite on top of it with a thick layer of gothic keyboard work. The orchestration takes the listener to a real fairytale world. As if we are in a kind of extreme metal version of the Dream Flight in efteling. Singer and guitarist Heino Brand roars the lyrics over the music like an Uruk-Hai, who declares war on a horde of angry Ents. However, he also adds clear vocals to give the music some friendliness. He is supported by Caleb Bingham (ex-Five Finger Death Punch),who takes care of the rhythm section. Haunted Worlds is a pleasant introduction to this recently formed band. In doing so, the musicians make use of recognizable elements of some big names from symphonic and extreme metal. The adage 'better well done than badly conceived' certainly applies here. However, the whole thing sounds pretty fresh and makes you curious about what this band can bring in the future. - Zwaremetalin
