Introducing 16-year-old vocal talent Ameri Shaye, presenting her cover of the Led Zeppelin epic, ‘Stairway To Heaven’. A long-established musical artist, since very early childhood, Ameri signed to Dr John’s Surgery Records, in 2020, launching her debut EP, soon after. An 8 time JMA nominee, for 3 consecutive years, securing her first win, last year, at the 2021 Songwriter Achievement Awards, Ameri was also nominated, 11 times, for Holland’s Red Carpet Award Show, eventually winning Best Christian Original, for her track, ‘Me And God’. Her passion for classic rock stretches right back to childhood, from which, her main inspirations stem. Selecting the much loved (and rightly so) ‘Stairway To Heaven’ as her cover track, from that era, Ameri pays true homage to the original, whilst taking an individual route, with its sound. The result’s set to leave you spellbound. Stairway To Heaven – Opening with the hauntingly familiar instrumental intro, transporting you back there, in an instant. An unusual vocal style, with a cultured country & western, blues tinged rock combo, which whilst it’s something of an acquired sound, when placed against this track, seeming to clash too much with the song’s subtlety, definitely holds a mysteriously powerful quality. Given her youth, her voice is stronger than most, if a little too wobbly, but the peaks are very impressively delivered, even though it does get a little too gritty for this track, in places. She’s certainly made the vocals her own, however. There’s an undeniable something there, creating an original essence. Few mature adults could hit that level of strength, or those grit-encrusted tones. That fact alone singles her out, as uniquely skilled. The ‘Coyote Ugly’ soundtrack style melds with the warble of Mariah Carey, with touches of Alison Krauss. Her performance here’s memorable, with raunchy highlights, taking ‘STH’ in a new direction. It does have to be said that this specific vocal style’s just a bit too overblown for the quiescent strands throughout ‘STH’ and may jar, in that respect. Still, that voice is unarguably strong and unique, likely to add much of value to many future tracks. The ending, however, needs more emphasis, as it detracts from the song’s original subtle shades, via its rapidity and shallow tones, in contrast to the intricacy of her preceding melodies. Ultimately, though, this is a future great, in the making. 8/10 ******** - Jenny Tate

Ameri Shaye is a 16 year old Award winning singer songwriter from Texas . She has been performing professionally since the age of 6 years old. Ameri Shaye even at a young age has always had a love for Classic Rock and a great fondness for many of the greatest of all time rock bands. This genre has greatly influenced her as an artist and she had her heart set on releasing a cover of one of the greats. Stairway to Heaven is the song she chose and while covering the song exactly was never her intentions she delivers a powerful and haunting tribute to this classic that will leave you both reminiscent of the original but wholly a work of new art by the talented 16 year old Ameri Shaye .
