Unworldly power metal band Divine Anger claim to be from another dimension. A mysterious shift is said to have happened, between them performing at Wacken festival and arriving here, on the other side of their reality. In their attempts to get back home, they plan to reach metal fans, with their outlandish calibre of metal. A form combining melody, aggression, alternative, screamo and melo-death, it’s mainly inspired by the likes of Iced Earth, Helloween, Angel Dust and Nocturnal Rites.

Formed in 2015, by bassist Barry Ross and guitarist Luke Kramer, the line-up was completed in 2018, with drummer Damon, vocalist ART3M and Misaki Hayashi, on synths. DA is a band with global members, who started out in Hamburg, Germany.

Claiming to be known only in their the world, DA have nevertheless, launched a debut single, ‘Behind The Wall’, plus 2 more singles, ‘Always Now’ and ‘Guru Of Hate’, also the title of the 5 track EP, out now.

Guru Of Hate – Straight out explosive intro, combining power metal, death vocals and sci-fi. A lot of heavy aggression, offset by melodic riffage, with a sinister edge. Great instrumentals, even if the vocals are a bit jarring. Quite repetitive, ending on an extended scream.

Behind The Wall – Drum beats open, with melodic riffs and there’s a catchy rhythm, from the start. Moving, effortlessly, into rattling drum rolls and group vocals, with an anthemic touch. Good blend of melodic and death vocals and plucky riff sections showcase a well delivered tumbling descent. It’s quite hooky and more melodic, upping the pace, with a classic power riff closing, with the final lyric.

Always Now – Coming in on a sweeping sound and gentler vocals. Then building up, into a heavier accompaniment. Slight melancholia to the lyrics. Still strong, in its own way, though. More power to the sound. Tangy riffs match the sharper vocal segments. Decent, accessible pace. Ending in a more sombre riff.

D-Day – Blast of drums opening. Straight off, it’s a denser sound, with a deeper backdrop. Shifting, into a cacophonous group vocal, with those otherworldly elements revealing themselves. Combined with a power metal aspect, slight dramatic theatricality and classic influence. Moving down, into a bleak riff solo, around the mid-section, with soft cymbal shimmers, then a gently building drum roll. Heaviness follows, alternating vocal aggression with melodic lyrics, repeating that solemn tone, before ending, abruptly, on a fired up vocal.

When Angels Sleep – A childlike nursery rhyme type melody intro’s, with gentle vocals and an eerie vortex entering, before exploding, into traditional power metal sounds. Strong lyrics and equally strong accompaniments. Vague ethereality creeps into the lyrical themes, amongst the powerful structures. It’s a decent arrangement, with peaks of power, taking it higher. That sci-fi angle blends with the angelic thematics, lending a freshness to the sound, before ending, on a Cooper-esque, horror finale, giving it that memorable touch.

Overall – An intriguing sound, constructed around curious themes, ‘Guru Of Hate’ is certainly an interestingly versatile listen. It’s standout aspects are definitely the power metal strands and the genre-hopping’s well handled. It doesn’t quite have that spark of exuberance about it, throughout, but on the whole, ‘GOH’ is a decent production, worth a spin.

Believe it or not, Divine Anger is a metal band from another dimension. How and why this shift happened is still a riddle to all! One moment, they were playing the biggest gig of their life in Wacken – on their side. Next, they woke up here, in a reality that is home to you but alien to them. Now, the six musicians are on a journey to return home, and their first wish is to play their way into the ears and hearts of metalheads, with their expressive power metal – a style that ranges from melodic to aggressive but is always catchy as hell! Everyone has heroes, and Divine Anger’s strongest influences are metal bands like Iced Earth, Helloween, Angel Dust, and Nocturnal Rites. At the same time, all band members enjoy the impact of more aggressive metal genres. So, you will mainly hear clean vocals in their songs, but you will also often hear screams, growls, or blends from these different vocal styles, inspired by subgenres like melodic death metal or alternative metal rather than specific bands.

Divine Anger was founded in 2015 by Barry Ross (bass) and Luke Krämer (guitars). The two school friends pushed their project passionately and formed a professional metal band in 2018. With Misaki Hayashi (synthesizers), J.J. (guitars), Damon (drums), and ART3M (vocals), Barry and Luke found irreplaceable comrades-in-arms, and today, they together form the permanent line-up of Divine Anger. The band members come from different countries and are thus an international group. As in their founding year, their life and creative activity are centered in Hamburg (Germany). Although currently completely unknown in the metal scene, Divine Anger has already built up a reputation as a serious newcomer band in their dimension. Indeed, they were just one step away from signing their first record deal, which was to happen right after their gig in Wacken. But then, things changed. On December 1, 2020 Divine Anger released their first single Behind the Wall in our dimension. A second single (Always Now) followed on February 20, 2021, and the third one (Guru of Hate) on May 7, 2021. On August 6, 2021 the band's debut EP will be unleashed on our ears.
