WAR ORPHAN DEBUTS RIPPING NEW THRASH-PUNK SINGLE "NEW CORE"

Thrash/hardcore band WAR ORPHAN, featuring guitarist Richie Cipriano (ex-SICK OF IT ALL, REACH), drummer Dante Renzi (REACH) and vocalist David Bason (BARFBAG, LORDS OF THE DRIFT), have released a new single titled "New Core," that speaks nostalgically about growing up and old in the hardcore scene.

Commenting on the track, vocalist David Bason states:

"New Core is a song about growing up in the hardcore scene and making the decision not to leave it behind as you get older. Scenes change, new kids come in and have their moment, the music changes but the message remains largely the same. This song to reminds older fans that it’s ok that there are new faces around. It’s ok that it’s their scene now. You can either turn your back on it or you can embrace it and form a bond with the new core.

I grew up loving hardcore but I often loved the message more than the music. I had my favorites but I didn’t love every record that come out. What I did love across the genre was the positive message. I loved the idea of friends and the bond they share. It always made so much more sense to me than talking about wizards, devils and horror movie crap that metal bands talk about. Hardcore was also different than lot of punk rock I was into which was way more political. Hardcore was always a little more street level. Stand by your friends, do the right thing, don’t back down. Pretty easy to understand and such a positive message. I love 7 Seconds and their positive message so there’s a little nod to them in there.

Dante (drums) and Richie (guitar and bass) really killed it on this one. I’m so lucky to have them as friends and bandmates. They like some of that wizard shit but I torture them about that privately (well, not really)."

The band recently revealed an explosive and timely song "F*ck The NRA," a tribute to THE EXPLOITED, which can be streamed at Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.

WAR ORPHAN made their debut in 2020 with a seething thrash punk EP Closer To Death Than Life. Their initial offering is a fearless protest record that delivers a much needed shot of angst into the hardcore scene and swift throat-punch to rightwing extremists and the current presidential administration. Bason summons the furious rage that people across the country have felt over the last few years, channeling it into songs about systematic racism ("Autonomous Zone") and a deceitful president ("Prop Up The Polls") among other topics that are more relevant and important now than ever before.

WAR ORPHAN came about when longtime friends Dante, Richie and David moved from recording songs trying make each other laugh to taking it seriously. Singer David Bason (Barfbag) lives in LA. Missing his New York friends, he would leave guitar player Richie Cirpiano (Ex Sick of It All, Reach) voicemails about how he thinks heavy metal is silly. Richie and Dante (Reach, Ouijipig) would track record metal songs to them and send them back. Thus, was born Bloodbath and Beyond, an inside joke to kill time and crack each other up.

Richie called and said he thought he had a song they should take seriously. Bason got excited and the EP was tracked, mixed and mastered in a matter of weeks. WAR ORPHAN came about naturally and the results show.
