Horror Scene: Industrial Chaos, Hardcore Roots, and the Stories Behind “Yeah You” If you thought the underground metal scene was just riffs and growls, think again. Horror Scene is here to prove it’s more than music—it’s a movement. I caught up with the band on The Zach Moonshine Show, and what started as a casual conversation quickly became an unfiltered deep dive into the chaos, creativity, and sheer ferocity that fuels these industrial-metal provocateurs. From Suicide Puppets to Horror Scene: A Name That Opens Doors The story begins with a simple, yet pivotal change. Originally called Suicide Puppets, the band found themselves hitting a wall online: algorithms buried them, Google blocked ads, and social media wouldn’t play nice. “Suicide Puppets was a tricky name, man. Every time I posted about it, it’d throw up these ‘do you need help?’ screens,” one member laughs. Enter the new name: Horror Scene. Clean, concise, and terrifyingly effective. The change was more than cosmetic—it unlocked doors in the underground and legitimized their presence in the modern metal ecosystem. “We all sat down, looked at names that would look good on a poster, and Horror Scene just stuck. Surprisingly, no one had picked it before.” It’s a perfect fit for a band that’s unapologetically theatrical, from corpse paint to industrial chaos. Crafting “Yeah You”: Hooks, Chaos, and a Middle Finger to Safety Horror Scene isn’t here to play it safe, and their new single “Yeah You” proves it. Produced by Dan Mauch (Ghost, Gojira), the track blends industrial aggression, crushing grooves, and hooks that punch you square in the face. “Dan really wanted to work on it, but we had to start with Welcome to Your Hell. It was all about timing and making sure it hit just right.” The band describes their music as a melting pot of influences: punk, industrial, hair metal, and pure modern metal brutality. Touring with Soulfly in 2021 brought them into the tribe immediately, with tour mom duties handled by Gloria, Max Cavalera’s wife, who made sure the band stayed safe and sane. “Every person who came to our merch booth said the same thing: ‘I don’t know where to put you guys.’ It’s industrial, it’s metal, it’s punk—it doesn’t fit neatly anywhere. And that’s exactly the point.” They’ve also crossed paths with legends like Dino from Fear Factory and John Bechtel from Ministry, building connections that have expanded their reach both on the stage and in the studio. Horror Scene on Film: The Soundtrack of Fear Beyond albums and live shows, Horror Scene’s music has found its way into the horror world. The band’s cinematic soundscapes and thematic aggression translate naturally to the screen. Influences, Gear, and the Hunt for the Perfect Sound Horror Scene’s influences read like a metal fan’s dream playlist: Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Ministry, 9 Inch Nails, Slipknot, and more. Each member brings something unique to the table, from industrial grit to punk fire. Studio-wise, they rely heavily on Kemper amps, with virtually no pedals—just pure tonal flexibility. “We’ve spent months tweaking sounds. The Kemper lets you dial in any amp you want,” one member explains. The pursuit of the perfect sound is painstaking, obsessive, and totally worth it—because when Horror Scene hits your ears, you feel every note. Community, Chaos, and Metal Devastation Outside the studio and stage, the band’s heart is in the community. They’ve built Metal Devastation Festival in Tennessee, growing a local metal scene where once there was none. It’s a testament to their belief that metal isn’t just music—it’s a lifestyle, a statement, and a family. “Put your speakers in your windows, drag them to your neighbor’s house, and crank it loud. While digitizing hours of old tapes filmed with the couple, Zane uncovered a previously unseen interview with Wayne Static from 1999. The footage, untouched for more than 25 years, was recorded shortly after Static-X completed its first run on Ozzfest. The interview shows Wayne at a pivotal moment as the band’s rise was just taking shape. “I couldn’t believe it,” Zane told Heavy Magazine. “It was raw footage from the first time I officially filmed Wayne. Almost 20 minutes of him, right when everything was starting to happen. The tape is over 25 years old, and it still plays.” Although the documentary centers on Wayne’s relationship with Tera Wray years later, Zane says the 1999 footage adds valuable context and shows another side of Wayne beyond the public persona. “There are a few things in there that really show Wayne’s depth as a person and his sense of humour,” Zane explained. “It adds context, and I’ll definitely be including some of it.” Additional details surrounding the documentary will be announced as production continues.
