David Gilmour fans are getting a one-night-only opportunity to attend theatrical screenings of the former Pink Floyd guitarist’s historic performances in Pompeii.
Rolling Stone reports that Gilmour’s Live at Pompeii concert movie, filmed during his two July 2016 concerts in the ancient Pompeii Amphitheater, has been booked to appear at more than 2,000 theaters worldwide on Sept. 13. Filmed in 4K by director Gavin Elder, the movie collects highlights from both shows to present a “career-spanning set” that revisits Floyd favorites as well as Gilmour solo cuts.
Theaters are still being added to the Live at Pompeii event, but filmgoers hoping to increase the odds of a local screening are encouraged to “demand it” at the screening’s official site — where it’s also already possible to pre-order tickets for theaters that have already announced their participation.
As previously reported , Gilmour’s Pompeii shows represented a homecoming of sorts; Pink Floyd famously filmed their own Live at Pompeii at the venue in 1971, although they delivered their performances without an audience. “I was slightly overwhelmed yesterday when we came here for the first time,” he said in 2016. “Coming back yesterday and seeing the stage and everything, it was quite overwhelming really. It’s a place of ghosts … in a friendly way.”
