FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PAINDEMIC FEATURED IN METAL HAMMER ALONGSIDE CLIFF BURTON, OZZY OSBOURNE, IRON MAIDEN, TONY IOMMI AND MORE
Heavy metal outfit PainDemic has been featured in Metal Hammer in an article exploring the lasting legacy of legendary Metallica bassist Cliff Burton and the next generation of musicians inspired by his influence. The feature highlights guitarist Cheyenne Scott, whose journey into heavy metal was shaped by Burton's musicianship and the scholarship established in his honor.
The appearance comes in a Metal Hammer issue featuring some of the biggest names and most influential artists in heavy music, including Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden featuring Nicko McBrain, Tony Iommi, Alice Cooper, Ministry, Deftones, Maynard James Keenan, Slaughter to Prevail, Cattle Decapitation, DevilDriver, Chelsea Wolfe, and Castle Rat. The issue also includes a special look back at the 30th anniversary of Ozzfest.
For PainDemic, the feature offers an opportunity to share a story that connects metal's rich history with the musicians carrying its spirit forward.
PainDemic guitarist Cheyenne Scott discovered Metallica at the age of 14 after a friend introduced her to the band's music. Watching footage of Metallica performing at Day on the Green in 1985 proved to be a defining moment, with Cliff Burton's performance leaving a lasting impression.
In 2023, Scott received the Cliff Burton Scholarship, which helped her purchase a Fender amplifier and continue developing her musical abilities. As highlighted in Metal Hammer , the scholarship played a meaningful role in her journey, demonstrating how Burton's legacy continues to inspire and support aspiring musicians decades after his passing.
Scott's story is a powerful example of how the influence of a legendary musician can extend far beyond the recordings he left behind.
That influence now carries forward through PainDemic, a band combining the experience of veteran underground metal musicians with the energy of a new generation.
PainDemic features guitarist Cheyenne Scott alongside bassist Gary Monardo and vocalist Rob Perkins, bringing together musicians with deep connections to the American metal underground.
Monardo and former PainDemic drummer Johnnie Tabares are known for their work on landmark Hirax recordings, including Raging Violence and Hate, Fear and Power . Perkins also brings decades of underground experience, having performed in Wargod alongside legendary drummer Gene Hoglan and guitarist Michelle Meldrum before later reuniting with Monardo and Tabares in Cold Blood.
The band's debut single, "FWF," arrived on February 27, 2026, introducing the first official recording from the project and setting the stage for its forthcoming full-length album, McGovney's House Party .
Scheduled for Spring 2027 through No Life 'Til Metal, the album takes its name from Ron McGovney, Metallica's original bassist before Cliff Burton joined the band. The title reflects PainDemic's connection to metal history while establishing an identity of its own.
Production on "FWF" and the upcoming album is handled by legendary producer Bill Metoyer, whose extensive credits include Slayer, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Armored Saint. Recording took place at Travis Dickerson Recording Studio in Chatsworth, California, in August 2025, with mixing and mastering completed in December 2025.
Cliff Burton helped redefine what the bass guitar could contribute to heavy metal. His adventurous musicianship, broad musical interests, and willingness to push beyond conventional boundaries helped shape Metallica's early sound and left an influence that continues to resonate throughout the genre.
The Metal Hammer feature places Scott's personal journey within that larger story, showing how Burton's impact continues to reach musicians who discovered his work decades after his death.
For PainDemic, that connection is especially meaningful. With experienced musicians behind the project and a new generation of talent pushing forward, the band represents a continuing link between metal's foundations and its future.
As PainDemic prepares for the Spring 2027 release of McGovney's House Party , the Metal Hammer feature introduces more readers to the people and experiences shaping the band's next chapter.
