Following the announcement of filmmaker Matt Zane’s upcoming documentary exploring the lives of Wayne Static (Static-X) and Tera Wray , the story has ignited widespread attention across the metal world. Major outlets including Blabbermouth , The PRP , Lambgoat , MetalSucks , and Blunt Magazine have all covered the news, highlighting the powerful legacy of the late Static-X frontman and his wife.
The film, set to begin production in January 2026 , will dive deep into the intense and often misunderstood relationship between Wayne and Tera. Zane, a longtime friend and collaborator of Wayne’s, announced plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign in January 2026 to bring their untold story to the screen.
“Most people are unaware that I knew Wayne for about 14 years, and I actually knew his wife Tera before him,” says Zane. “We were all close, and I worked on every project he did after leaving Static-X.”
Zane directed all of Wayne’s solo music videos, including Pighammer Promo , Assassins of Youth , and Noise Revolution featuring DMC. The upcoming documentary will also include previously unreleased music recorded by Zane and Static for an unfinished project, some of which will now be completed using modern AI technology.
“I know this is something Wayne and Tera wanted to get done, and they wanted me to do it,” Zane adds. “I feel I owe them this — to tell their story the way they wanted it told.”
