An unholy descent into darkness forged in Finland’s frostbitten depths

Finland’s harbingers of darkness, Kalmo , return from the abyss with their devastating new single, “Thy Saviour, Thy Master,” out now on all major streaming platforms. This marks the band’s second single of 2025, following the July release that signaled a new and formidable chapter in Kalmo’s evolving dominion of blackened doom.

With this release, Kalmo drags listeners even deeper into their world of suffocating gloom, melding the grit of raw black metal with the crushing weight of traditional doom. “Thy Saviour, Thy Master” is a sermon of despair—a nightmarish vision of corruption and damnation, painted in riffs as dense as tomb walls and vocals that echo from beyond the grave.

Continuing their collaboration with Roland of Cavern of Echoes (cavernofechoes.com) —who mixed and mastered the previous single—Kalmo ensures that every second of sonic weight is steeped in the band’s trademark darkness. The single also features a guest appearance by guitarist Juhani , whose leads carve new scars into Kalmo’s relentless soundscape.

The single’s official video , produced by Kalmo, visualizes this descent into the abyss with stark, ritualistic imagery—an offering to those who worship at the altar of blackened doom.

ABOUT KALMO

Kalmo (meaning cadaver in English) is a Finnish blackened doom metal force that fuses the grim despair of doom with the ferocity of black and death metal. Their music is steeped in themes of death, damnation, and the inevitable end—echoing the spirits of Celtic Frost/Triptykon, Death Breath, and Konvent .

Formed in Finland’s shadowed north, Kalmo continues to evolve its plague-ridden sound while working toward a new release slated within the next few months. The band is also finalizing its lineup with a permanent second guitarist and drummer to take their sonic rituals to the stage.
