MORNINGSTVR Unveils Black Metal "The Last of the Northern Kingdoms" Music Video
New Album "A Fate Engraved" Set for Release June 2025
Following the announcement of his upcoming album A Fate Engraved , synth-based black metal artist Morningstvr has unveiled the first single, “The Last of the Northern Kingdoms,” alongside an accompanying music video. This nearly five-minute track highlights the artist’s signature blend of cold, atmospheric synths, thunderous drums, and anguished vocals — all hallmarks of his distinctive sound.
Sam Tchortov, the Russian-American musician behind Morningstvr, offers insight into the single:
“The Last of the Northern Kingdoms” is the lead song on this album. It draws reference from one of Tolkien’s works, telling the story of my origins. I chose this song as the lead because of the epic changes in the track, the emotion it conveys, and how heavy it became as I finished writing it.”
The song features overarching themes of medieval lore, ancient battles, and fallen empires. It acts as a narrative bridge between Morningstvr's previous work, In Memoriam of the Blvck Wind , and the new chapter in his “Unholy Trinity” saga. The music video’s visual aesthetic perfectly complements the track’s atmosphere, showcasing desolate winter landscapes and crumbling medieval structures — enhancing the themes of lost glory and forgotten kingdoms.
Tchortov, drawing influence from bands like Darkthrone and Hulder, as well as the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien, has crafted a piece that is both a powerful single and a vital component of the larger narrative that A Fate Engraved aims to tell.
