FREYCUS ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO “ANIMUS” TO RELEASE ON JANUARY 23, 2025
Los Angeles-based Heavy Metal Band Introduces Vocalist Peekay in Their Latest Chapter

Los Angeles, CA — January 2, 2025 — Progressive heavy metal powerhouse FREYCUS is set to release their highly anticipated new single, “Animus,” alongside a captivating music video, on January 23, 2025. Known for their unique blend of heavy metal, alternative metal, and metalcore, the band continues to push creative boundaries while staying true to their atmospheric and intricate roots.

Founded in 2013 by guitarist Charles Almero, FREYCUS originally started as a punk band before transforming into a progressive metal juggernaut. With Zareh Minassian on guitar, Urian Medina on bass, and Donovan Wetterstein on drums, the group gained recognition with the release of their debut album, Sown, on March 29, 2024. The album highlighted the band's ability to merge atmospheric soundscapes with complex rhythms, captivating audiences worldwide.

The addition of vocalist Pranati Khanna, known as Peekay, in late 2024 has ushered in a fresh era for FREYCUS. After an extensive touring stint across India and Asia, Peekay relocated to Los Angeles to join the band, described as the "missing puzzle piece" that completed their lineup. Her debut with the group on “Animus” showcases her powerful vocal range and versatility, complementing FREYCUS's bold and evolving sound.

For fans of Skyharbor, Spiritbox, Jinjer, Bad Omens, and Sleep Token, “Animus” is a must-hear, offering a dynamic listening experience that bridges intensity and melody.

About the Music Video: A Story of Struggle and Redemption

Coinciding with the single’s release, the music video for “Animus” delves into themes of self-loathing, addiction, and redemption. It portrays the harsh realities of self-destruction, temptation, and darkness that plague individuals in a world increasingly consumed by the pandemic of drug abuse and mental health struggles, particularly in Los Angeles.

Through an innovative fusion of Indian Kathak dance and progressive metal, the video bridges cultural and artistic storytelling to create a globally resonant message.

The Kathak dancer tells the story of Kali, the goddess of destruction, who fights to overcome the evils faced by an addict. Her battle with a malevolent force serves as a metaphor for the struggles of addiction and mental health, presenting a powerful narrative of hope and triumph over inner darkness.

The video offers a visually stunning and emotionally charged representation of overcoming vulnerability and finding strength amidst chaos, perfectly complementing FREYCUS’s intense and dynamic sound.
