NEVERMORE Drama Erupts: Founding Member Jim Sheppard Blasts Band’s Resurrection Plans as 'Disrespectful'!

In a dramatic turn of events, Jim Sheppard, founding bassist of the iconic progressive metal band NEVERMORE, has expressed his discontent with guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams over their apparent decision to revive the band without consulting him. Sheppard called their actions “completely disrespectful” following the release of a teaser video titled "Resurrecting The Dream" on December 27.

The video, posted by Loomis and Williams, features NEVERMORE-related imagery and silhouettes presumed to represent the two musicians, accompanied by the text “A New Chapter Rises” and the year 2025.

Two days later, Sheppard’s wife, Priscila, addressed the situation in a statement on Facebook, clarifying Jim’s absence from the project:

“James has never been contacted about Van's plans with Jeff using the NEVERMORE name. I am sorry you think James is involved. We do not know about their plans, and it is completely disrespectful of them to use the name NEVERMORE without consulting Jim Sheppard, as he is one of the founders of the band.

“We are waiting for clarification on this alleged project and will proceed from there, whether or not clarification comes from them. No further comment for now. Thank you.”

The Legacy of NEVERMORE

NEVERMORE, formed in 1991, split in 2011 following Loomis and Williams’s departure, citing personal differences with Sheppard and vocalist Warrel Dane. The band’s distinctive sound, marked by intricate guitar work and haunting lyrics, left an indelible mark on the metal scene.

Dane, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 56 while working on his solo album Shadow Work, was known for his powerful vocals and poignant lyrics. His struggles with alcoholism and health issues had long been public knowledge. Dane’s death marked the end of any hopes for a reunion of the classic NEVERMORE lineup.

In past interviews, Loomis had dismissed the idea of reviving NEVERMORE without Dane, stating, “Without Warrel, it’s just not feasible.” However, the teaser suggests that Loomis and Williams may have changed their stance, though the specifics of their plans remain unclear.
Jim Sheppard's Position

As a founding member, Sheppard’s exclusion from the project has sparked criticism. His wife’s statement highlights the lack of communication and respect shown by Loomis and Williams in proceeding without his involvement. For fans, this raises questions about authenticity and the ethical considerations of reviving a band with such a storied history.
Moving Forward

While the teaser has sparked intrigue and debate, it remains to be seen how Loomis and Williams will navigate the controversy surrounding their plans for NEVERMORE. The band’s legacy, shaped by its original members and their collective artistry, remains a cornerstone of metal history.

As the situation unfolds, fans will be watching closely to see how this "new chapter" aligns with NEVERMORE’s enduring reputation and whether it honors the spirit of the band’s remarkable past.
