SHINING Announces Release of "The Helsinki Tapes" – Out Now!

In the wake of their reissue of "VIII / Redefining Darkness", SHINING is set to close one of the more cursed chapters of their storied career with the release of "The Helsinki Tapes". Released December 13, 2024, this long-awaited release offers a glimpse into the raw, experimental phase that would later give birth to one of the most transformative albums in their catalog.

The story behind "The Helsinki Tapes" is legendary. Frontman Niklas Kvarforth has often spoken of the month he spent in an apartment in Finland's capital with Christian Larsson and Yusaf Parvez (DHG), where the three band members engaged in a whirlwind of writing, experimentation, and what can only be described as “unspecified damage.” These infamous demo tapes, long a point of discussion among fans, have remained largely shrouded in mystery—until now.

SHINING has always hoped that these demo tapes could one day see the light of day, and now, with "The Helsinki Tapes", the band is offering an official release. Kvarforth himself has described this material as “far superior to the actual album itself,” though we may or may not agree on that claim. What is undeniable, however, is the rawness and sense of unease that permeates every track. This release offers an audial snapshot of how SHINING—an obscure Black Metal band from Sweden—transformed into something far more dangerous and unpredictable than anyone could have anticipated.

The CD edition comes in a classic jewel case, strictly limited to 1000 copies. The LP edition will be available in four exclusive colors: Classic Black Vinyl (200 copies), White Vinyl (100 copies), Silver Vinyl (100 copies), and Gold Vinyl (100 copies), with each LP including an exclusive A3 poster.
