The music rolls and stomps out of the speakers brutally, unstoppably and uncompromisingly like glowing lava. The experiments and expansion take place in detail. For the connoisseur of PARACRONA, it becomes more of a painstaking task to find them. "Sun God" is a coherent work as if from a single source, with recurring melodic motifs and rhythmic structures. The opener “New Impurity” immediately shows where things are going. PARACRONA start completely suddenly, as if God had commissioned them to provide sound for the apocalypse: meter-thick guitar walls, changes in tempo and the screams of a berserker with at least one glowing arrowhead in his innermost part give us a rough idea of what could await us on the last day. Bottomless hatred and lots and lots of aggression run through all nine songs on the album.

Despite the greatest possible brutality that runs through all the songs, PARACRONA never gets boring. This is because they always proceed in a groove-oriented manner and never fall into mindless, high-speed violence, even in the event of sudden outbursts of anger. "Sun God" is an extraordinary album that impresses me above all with its consistent uncompromising approach. It is hardly possible to highlight individual tracks as listening tips, as "Sun God" has the best effect when you listen to it in one go. Still, my favorites are "Carry The Cross" and "River of Pain". Very strong, very evil, lots of goosebumps!

‘SUN GOD‘, the debut release from prog death metallers PARACRONA, is an abrasive and dark album but one with a fresh perspective on death metal. The dark and blackened music is straightforward in its desire to fry the senses but unpredictable in the approach it takes; each song offers something different, adding up to a twisted but worthwhile journey. The album has been brought to life mixing and mastering by the legendary Fredrik Nordstrom, who produced albums from the original Gothenburg death metal scene, among many, many others!

PARACRONA was formed by Ringo Christiaan Van Droffelaar and Oystein Hansen, from the Netherlands and Norway, respectively. After meeting at the 2007 edition of Wacken Open Air, the two formed a musical bond and began recording ‘SUN GOD’ IN 2016. After many delays, including the pandemic and Ringo’s battle with cancer, lead to the album being released this year.

‘Sun God,’ explores themes of ancient, old belief systems with the idea that the ‘Sun God,’ is within you. Fighting against the powers of greed, ego, pseudo science and misinformation, the album is about breaking free from these dark, even Satanic, forces and finding the strength within oneself.
