As a big fan of the original wave of Nu Metal and Alternative Metal, I always follow all the newcomers in this sector with great interest, which is why I couldn't pass up the new EVERNOIR album "Stages Of Grief". Founded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by Venerate Miercy and Vic Wiley, the band, which has now grown into a five-piece, has been causing musical mischief on the American scene since 2016. The third long-shot, which follows on the heels of the "Heart's Deception" album double pack, should now bring the band a little more attention outside of their homeland.

Looking at the sober facts, there is definitely potential for a larger fan base, because with the references named THE AGONIST, INFECTED RAIN and JINJER mentioned in the press release, the five-piece around frontwoman Venerate Miercy should actually have hit the nerve of the times. And yes, I also have to attest to the opener 'A Tyke Called Mike' that the trademarks of the genre are served excellently here. The riffs are lower-pitched and groovy, Venerate barks and growls powerfully and when it comes to it, she can also carry a larger chorus hookline and thus refine the song. In addition to the references already mentioned, the genre forefathers KORN also come to mind, who left their mark on the guitar work of the five-piece,

The Americans are able to maintain the poor level for the time being, although in my ears the following 'Now No One Sleeps' and 'Concerning Narcissists' are even slightly ahead of the opener in terms of hit potential. After that, EVERNOIR inexplicably runs out of steam, especially because the general recipe with which the songs are concocted is mostly repetitive. Although I still really like the deathly metal excursions in 'Wishmaster' and 'Childhood', overall from the fourth track onwards no number really scores with me and even the clear vocal hooklines somehow seem a bit too tame and predictable. Worse still, the poppy synth ballad 'Apricity' is completely irrelevant. Good,

Now my review overall sounds a bit more negative than it should actually be. Basically, EVERNOIR's musical foundation is blessed with a lot of potential and there are already some brilliant moments in terms of composition. Within the album distance, the band can't yet showcase all of their strengths, but we can still be excited to see what we can expect from the five-piece in the future. powermetal

Evernoir is an Alternative Metal band from Eau Claire, WI. Original members Venerate Miercy and Vic Wiley formed the group in 2016, later joined by Trevor Wendt, Jimmy Booth, and Paul Ormsby. They are signed with DI Records. The members have united under a history of depression, and have chosen to take a stand for the wounded and fallen. Their lyrics focus around abuse and suicide awareness; they aim to encourage listeners to keep fighting and seek help. Music was a refuge for each member during their own struggles, and they want their listeners- dubbed "Noirbirds"- to know they are not alone and that there is hope.
