With their debut album, the US-American trio shows directly where they come from. The band was formed from former members of the death metal band Ba'alzamon Marc Williams (guitar & keyboards) and Curtis Fitzpatrick (vocals). The deep sounds are provided by bassist Christopher Brandon, who previously played guitar and bass with bands such as Dirge, Severed Faith, Toilsome, Truth Be Told and Ashes.

Musically, the album comes up with genre-typical deep, growling vocals and deep basses as well as harmonious guitar riffs. I like to be taken on the melancholic journey this album takes me through. As in the previously released song "Death Springs Eternal", death and transience are repeatedly dealt with. However, Curtis also sings about hope for some kind of redemption after death, as in the song "A Frigit Emptiness".

All in all a dark album, which I personally like a lot and is very atmospheric. The partly grandiose guitar riffs like in "Thorns in the Garden" paired with the flawless growl remind me of so many songs by Amon Amarth.
I would like to recommend this album to all friends of cultivated melodic death or dark metal.

I gave "Icy Veins" 8 out of 10 Hellfire points for their successful debut album . hellfire

Short Bio: Born from the ashes of the late 90’s progressive death metal band Ba’alzamon, Eisige Venen began in 2020 as a one-man metal project founded by Guitarist and Keyboardist Marc Williams (ex-B’alzamon, Fallen Empire, Nightsphere, Frostcrown). Marc released two demos and two singles before enlisting former Ba’alzamon frontman Curtis Fitzpatrick to fulfill vocal duties in early 2023. Shortly thereafter, guitarist, bassist, programmer Christopher Brandon (ex-Dirge, Severed Faith, Toilsome, Truth Be Told, Ashes in the Fall) joined to fill out the lower end of the sonic spectrum on bass guitar. Averse to the application of definitive labels, Eisige Venen offers a unique blend of atmospheric black metal rife with tremolo picking, but incorporates synthesizers reminiscent of Peter Tagtgren’s PAIN. Eisige Venen have been compared to Ellende, Harakiri for the Sky, Rotting Christ, and Unreqvited, however, they are unique in their own right.
