This EP Dead Lights Beckon Me is a renewed acquaintance with the Americans of Blood Stained Dusk . These gentlemen have been together since 2016. After they were founded in 1998, they were active in the black/death metal world for over ten years. In 2009 the gloves were thrown in the ring, only to be taken up again in 2016. And this resulted, more than seven years later, in the EP that we can listen to now. Sweden's Black Lion Records was not surprised by the return of this foursome and immediately took them on board.
In seven years the gentlemen have made four songs that are collected on this EP, special. Presumably the gentlemen set the bar high and swear by quality rather than quantity. As fans of the extreme genre, we can only applaud that of course. The black metal that this band delivers is of the atmospheric kind and reminds me of Dimmu Borgir 's latest records when I listen for the first time . Blood Stained Dusk has asked Mr. Sergio “Surg” Quesada (ex – Khaotika nota bene) to spice things up with flashy solos.
The opening track and immediately the title track of this EP, Dead Lights Beckon Me , has everything a brutal atmospheric black metal song should have. There are those biting screams with an occasional grunt underneath, those cutting guitar parts, those razor-sharp solos, those brutal and very fast drums. All this is provided with a thick, solid keyboard sauce that often feels very bombastic.
There is very little variation on the connecting songs No Light Shall Penetrate and Worship And Disintegrate . Of the three songs, the second song is slightly my favourite, simply because it also uses hateful, occult-feeling themes in addition to a lot of different drum dynamics. And do I hear a banjo there too? These friends close with an orchestral version of the first song. Of course this is also a nod to our Norwegian friends I mentioned earlier.
With this EP by the American band Blood Stained Dusk I am catapulted back to the period just after 2000. A period in which works like Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and later Death Cult Armageddon by Dimmu Borgir were launched. In the absence of recent releases from these Norwegians, the purchase of this EP is more like a patch against the bleeding, a bitter pill that might make the wait for a new Dimmu Borgir record a bit more bearable. zwaremetalen

Formed in 1997 during the rise of the myriad bands that were part of the black metal subculture, Blood Stained Dusk emerged to take the United States Black Metal scene by storm. The BLOOD STAINED DUSK sound, which is like no other in U.S. Black Metal (USBM), captures unique, majestic, and somber tones accompanied by ritualistic brimstone and fire lyrics. The raw and menacing atmosphere of the band’s sound creates an epic and warlike ambiance. The music’s influence was originally forged by the traditional Norwegian and European Black Metal sound while powerfully emerging as a unique entity within the USBM culture.
